I've just ordered 'Viking Invasion', wich I will get probably next week or the week after. I have been playing MTW for about six months and I constantly read on this thread what great addition vi brings to the game and that you never want to go back once you played blablabla. So I conceded.

The fact is I don't have a lot of time to experiment so here's what I'm asking:

Apart from the patch what should I install? First get a taste of VI and then install a mod or go strait to a mod?

And if I should go strait to a mod which one would you recommend? (I'm thinking in the lines of a lot of factions and units. A lot of action without being a superpower in a few decades)

Thanks in advance :2thumbsup:

PS. a mod with the Flemish as a faction and specific units has an edge.

Well, if you're only gonna play the original campaign then you might as well install an 'enhancement' mod right away (XL, WesMedMod, Supermod). Even with expansion the original campaign isn't so different than the one you're playing right now......maybe new units in early and some playable catholic factions without new glory goals.:inquisitive: With that said, those three mods will definitely increase the fun by having more units, regions, etc.

The Viking campaign is different and therefore should be played. It's got different map and 'atmosphere.'

I suggest sticking with VI expansion and patch to start with. It's a different map and the raiding style of the Vikings will be an interesting change for you.

I also like the fact the map is smaller - I love the depth and complexity of MTW - but I found it refreshing to go simpler with the VI map.

As far as mods go I'm currently playing Napoleonic Total war and loving it. I've also had Hellenic Total War loaded - both mods are great - hats off to the guys and gals who do these mods - it's all too technical for me but it's amazing the work they must put into them~:thumb:

Anyway....hope you love VI when it comes - Happy Raiding!:medievalcheers:

PS I'm waiting on a copy of Shogun WE due to arrive late this week - early next - so we could keep in touch - I'll certainly look out for any of your posts

I'm really looking forward to playing that campaign. Do all mods leave the possibility of playing the Viking campaign? (If not I doubt that it would be the first mod I install) I also like to stay medieval with the mod, maybe later I'll try the pike and musket, napoliontic or METW mod.

To Matrixman: I hesitated a lot when I saw STW in the library but I brought home MTW instead (and bought it afterwards). I heard the atmosphere in STW was great but I really like MTW. And as I dont have time to play 2 games (eventhough they are very similar) I'll probably won't play STW very soon but do tell me what you think of it.

If you've got enough hard disk space (which people usually do), just install an entirely new version of MTW & VI which you can use specifically for mods and/or tweaking, and an unmodded version of MTW & VI installed separately.

You won't regret buying VI. The Viking campaign is awesome. Very gritty, dark, and primeval. It's also a lot more "cozy" on the map, haha...

I'm enjoying XL and it makes no changes to the Viking campaign, which is a nice shorter and very intense option. It also allows you to play normally on the regular campaign map (with the exception that there are a few new provinces added in), but the new factions and units, etc. are fantastic. I highly recommend it and you shouldn't be missing out on anything from VI that you won't get and more.

I've heard great things about SuperMod and MedMod as well but can't speak from personal experience.

After some quick reading on the mod forum I was left with XL and BKB supermod. Both leave the viking campaign playable and have a better AI but BKB has the Flemish in it and a lot more units and factions so I'll probably go for BKB supermod. I really hope it'll be as awsome as I hope.
