I am using V1.3 (due to RTWBI Enhancement Pack which hasn't yet been updated to V1.5). I am in the late stages of my Egyptian Campaign. To date none of the Generals have gained the GoodCommander line of traits through battles, only if they were born with it.

I have checked the trigger in the export_descr_character.txt file which are as follows:

;------------------------------------------
Trait GoodCommander
Characters family
NoGoingBackLevel 6
AntiTraits BadCommander

Level Confident_Commander
Description Confident_Commander_desc
EffectsDescription Confident_Commander_effects_desc
GainMessage Confident_Commander_gain_desc
Threshold 1

Effect Command 1

Level Good_Commander
Description Good_Commander_desc
EffectsDescription Good_Commander_effects_desc
GainMessage Good_Commander_gain_desc
Threshold 3

Effect Command 2

Level Superior_Commander
Description Superior_Commander_desc
EffectsDescription Superior_Commander_effects_desc
GainMessage Superior_Commander_gain_desc
Threshold 5

Effect Command 3

Level Great_Commander
Description Great_Commander_desc
EffectsDescription Great_Commander_effects_desc
GainMessage Great_Commander_gain_desc
Threshold 23

Effect Command 4

Level Legendary_Commander
Description Legendary_Commander_desc
EffectsDescription Legendary_Commander_effects_desc
GainMessage Legendary_Commander_gain_desc
Epithet Legendary_Commander_epithet_desc
Threshold 30

Effect Command 5

It seems that the trait should be gained after a certain threshhold of battles won is reasched. However, on of my commander has most definetely won over 30 battles with clear victories or better, yet he hasnt to date improved upon his 'command talent' trait which he was born with.

Is this line of traits broken in V1.3, have they been fixed in V1.5, or am I the only one having this issue?

Thanks.

You may need a lot more than 30 battles to reach the top of the GoodCommander trait.

The triggers for the GoodCommander trait is what you need to look at. They're further down the file. If you win a battle under certain conditions, you have x amount of chance to gain 1 point in the GoodCommander trait. But in some instances you can win many battles under the right conditions and not gain 1 bleedin' point!

In the 1.6 patch, CA made it a bit easier to gain the trait in BI, where it was much harder to gain than in RTW. Anyway, regardless of whether you're playing RTW or BI, to typically to stand a chance of gaining the good commander traits, you must clearly win a battle where the odds were more or less even before the battle started. Often you need to leave a few units behind before a battle starts so the odds are less favourable. If the odds are 4:1 in your favour for example, there's very little if any chance to gain another star. 2:1 in your favour is ok some of the time.

Thanks. I am looking into the triggers. I think they have also been changed by the mod I am using which is causing them to not work properly. It seems they requirements have been raised too high, just like in BI v1.4. I will now reconcile these with V1.5 of RTW triggers and see what happens.

Thanks again for all the help Professor.

It sounds like the mod changes the RTW traits file with much of stuff from the BI one, as the GoodCommander trait you posted is from BI (I'm also going with what you said in your other thread). In BI 1.4, getting command stars was a nightmare. Still tricky in the latest version. I had generals fight dozens of battles and never gain one star. By contrast, in RTW, I have 7-10 star generals all over the map!
