Anyone play? Anyone planning to play?

I puchased COV 2 months ago. I use one character for content, who I have worked up to level 38 by soloing 90% of the missions on difficult, just to get story and cool loot and missions. He is a mastermind so it makes soloing very possible, got an outstanding build that also makes me a triple threat in pvp (except it takes me forever to get pets ready, and once they go I die). Bad news is I'm pretty sure MAsterminds with ninjas are gonna get nerfed, while they leave robots, commandoes and zombies alone.

My other toons are all 10-20 and I'm aiming for fun PVP builds instead of content, which means more spawn grinding and running around the city killing stuff my level -- this, when done properly and with planning, can be far more effective at getting xp and money than going all over creation to various missions and middion brokers.

The contact/broker/mission cycle has many options and branches out, so there would be different content with my other toons if I wanted to try to do it, but really when you get down to it its pretty much the same content with different mission names. Plus, I like to Solo.

Started a SuperGroup and we are up to about 40 members now.

When you kill soemthing high enough level you get XP, infamy (money) and prestige (money for your super group). You may loot an enhancement (you put them on skills) or salvage(salvage is used to build base items.

Bases: super groups get bases, which cost lots of prestige, but you can put in teleporters so ppl without travel powers can get to difficult places. Bases are alos used in PVP if you want, but no one does it because base items are bugged and disappear sometime, and you lose base items in pvp, which makes them really expesnive. Mainly, atm, bases are of utility purposes

Different levels: If my 38 wanted to help a lower level I would basically "lackey" him to make him one level below me. It would give him the level 37 version of any skills he has, but not give him new skills. Also, he has to stay close. (this is where teleporters are handy)

Or, he could malfactor me down to his level and we do his missions. I would get powers his level bu I would get to keep all my enhancement bonuses, which makes malfs far more powerful than lackeys. As a malf I dont get xp, only prestige but it can be worth it.

SKILLS: Every even level you get to choose from new skills. 2 and 4 you only get to choose from primary and secondary skills sets, but at 6 you can start choosing "pool powers" that every other player has choice to choose from.

On odd levels, you get 2 (3 at 33) slots to put on skills, where you place enhancements. enhancements give bonuses to the skills like 10-30% bonus to damage, or accuracy, or endurance cost etc.

SG MODE: when you are in SG mode you basically split the infamy and prestige reward half and half. As you increase in level, around 30, when you are in SG mode you only get prestige, if you want to make money you need to leave SG mode so you get infamy instead of SG. the difference though is huge, and not so huge at low levels so at 1-26ish theres really no point to NOT be in SG mode. It makes it kind of nice to be level 38, if i need some cash i run a few missions out of SG mode, and if i got plenty i run in SG mode. Its kind of cool to log him on and say "okay, what do i want to make today, money for me or the guild?"

PVP:
In the PVP zones there is a level set: 20/30/40. If you are 25 and you go to the first one you are set back to 20, if 16 up to 20 etc etc. Again, coming down some levels is the more powerful way to go because even though you lose skills you still get your huge enhancement bonuses.

In PVP zone 1, bloody bay, you can run missions like normal as PVP goes on around you. Winning missions gives your side a bonus or the other side a penalty for 15 minutes, and the infamy and prestige rewards are higher for missions in these zones, so you will get a lot of people who just run miss and a lot of people looking for pvp. Each side has a safe base to clone in, and you get o xp debt from PVP, but you do if an NPC kills you. Also, the bases can be breached with enough players on a frontal assault.

Zone 2: sirens call. No mission per say (not instanced at least) instead there are "hot spots" all over the city where good vs evil npcs are fighting. You have to help your side win, all while being in danger of attack from another player. If your side wins enough consecutive battles your side starts getting bonuses. Also, players from opposing side who get a lot of play kills get a boutny on there head, which shows to all of you, and they can be trcked alittle easier. When you are done with pvp in Sirens call you go talk to the contact and cash in your "bounty points" to buy uber temp powers that are hard to find otherwise (like a temporary fly, or a temporary invisibility) these powers usually get 6 uses or 30 mins cumulative use time

Zone 3: This one is nuts. In addition to everyone being 40, its like zone 1 with missions and bonuses EXCEPT PEOPLE ON YOUR OWN SIDE CAN ATTACK YOU AS WELL. The safest bet here is being on a team. this place is truly a war zone and its huge, and the xp is insane. the problem at the moment is there are obviously more high level heroes than villains so there are a lot of 50s who come down to 40 and get their sweet bonuses that all the 40s and 41s dont have yet. Its okay though, its not that lopsided and remember, COH has different skillsets than COV, so that means no masterminds or corruptors for heroes whereas villains dont get tanks or defenders.

anyway, if you pick it up, consider going on Triumph server, my global handle is Colon Burns, my mains name is Fast Chong, I'll hook you up with some bling and the SG will show you the ropes.

Forgot to mention strike forces:

Strike forces are extra long missions where you need at least 4 people. As with any mission, the more people you get the harder the mission, so for necessary striek force teams (like the various respec missions) its best to stay small to ensure success. People do respec missions because they want a respec, not because they want XP.

You can also do SG only SFs you get from mission terminals in the base. (you build the terminal from salvage). The more badges your SG unlocks the better the missions. Everyone needs to be at least 20 for the SG SFs but you can lackey people up to par if like 2 22s want to roll with 2 38s.

Respec missions: there are at least 2 I know of, one at 25 and one at 34. by the time you get to 25 you will know exactly where you went wrong on your toon, and when u actaully use the respec it goes a level at a time so you can change your enhancemnt slots as well and re-slot the enhancments or sell the unused ones back at a good profit margin. By the time you get to 34 there will be skills you needed at 25, but no longer use at 34 that much, so again the 34 respec will be a life saver.

Our problem with SFs is that we just dont have enough people on at once who can run them, but once the newer recruits get up to 20 that wont be a problem. Once you lave a SF team you cant get back in and once it starts new people cant get invited, so SF participants really need to make sure they have at least 2 hrs to play. But, the rewards are huge and totally worth it.

Used to play it, still have it. Level 23 Blaster (Random Soldier was the name) but at that level it suddenly became very, VERY tough to find any good parties, and the fighting was getting repetitive, so I just quit.

One thing that still amazes me about the game is the "origin" you pick, i.e natural, technology, magic etc which is supposed to have very little to do with your template BUT in fact it does because certain races drop certain origin SOs more often than others.

What amazes me is that no one knows this. You get magic players going after the mafia and natural players going after sorcerers. This makes no sense if you are doing missisons you have a choice in (like the newspaper missions you have to do to finally get a bankrobbery)

If you quit at 23 you never got to respec then. Also, groups suck, you cant play the game without being in a SG it just wont work, you have to have support from people you know. I dont group hardly ever, and when i do its with SG members, and I know they are on because the SG window lets you see the online status of people and how oftern they get on/level/prestige earned etc

The game isnt for everyone, and most ppl who I know in RL who quit all bottomed out around the same level as you: mid 20s. Groups often do more harm than good, and if you arent playing on voice chat you are selling yourslf short.
