View Full Version : How Did You Find This Place?

Just thought we would do an unscientific poll of the various ways we arrived at TotalWar.org.

For me: I bought Shogun:TotalWar, after reading a review at ZD.net praising how it displayed thousands of warriors on the screen at one time (innovative back then). I typed "http://Shogun:TotalWar.*" into my address bar, and found totalwar.com. Read some posts from a guy called EradoSan, apparently a techie, and followed a link (among many) he provided to totalwar.org. Looked around, was welcomed, stayed ever since.

How did YOU get here?

I could not get my MP on RTW to work, and the official forum sucked in help sections. I googled total war and found the org, asked for help, and though I didn't get it fixed back then, I like it here.

I was looking at FAQs for RTW on Gamefaqs, and one of them mentioned a guide written here. I decided to check it out, and found an entire forum dedicated to player-written guides. I was happy, I lurked there for awhile, then I decided to register.

When trying to set up A vpn for playing STW on.
i noticed i could not send udp's through a lan connection.
I then was seaching for programs to technically create a tunnel through the vpn so i could receve udp diagrams.

This was not easy through windows xp.
I decided to get Free bds.
As i was about to start seting up the vpn server, I decided to find out if any 1 els had the same idea as me in the past.

I searched for Stw.
i found here.....

If you find my 1st 2nd and 3rd posts you will see.

my 1st was asking if any 1 had sucsesfully Enabdles udp over Vpn,
my second was, How does fake server work
And my 3rd was Telling people the server was running.

Since then ive been here almost every day.

Thats my story :P
So google did it.

...uh...pretty boring story...I hated Totalwar.com, and I saw Totalwar.org link, clicked on it...and have been here since. Nothin' special.

I'd seen previews and played the demo shortly before medieval came out, but wasn't able to pick up a copy till 2 years later, so I got the $10 Walmart special that came without a manual. Needless to say, I was lost. It was my first total war game, and I didn't have a clue. I figured out some of the basics on my own, but soon was searching online for plenty of answers. Google led me here, and after several months of just lurking and collecting information I decided to join.

It's my first experience with any online forum and still by far the best.

I started playing MTW again after a long break and since I had been participating in another online forum for a game, decided to see if there was such a community for MTW. I googled for forums totalwar and presto! arrived here.

I lurked for several months and discovered so much new about the game. The knowledgeable people and respectful atmosphere really impressed me, but also meant I wanted to be able to contribute a little before joining.

Well, one day I was bored so I thought it'd be nice to install MTW again. I wanted to spice things up a little bit...maybe with new battle maps or new historical battles. Then I googled "Medieval - Total War" and bunch of sites came up. I visited TW.COM, checked out the download section but didn't see anything much there. I went here and all hell broke lose.

You know, I can't remember exactly how I first stumbled onto this place. I could be wrong here, but I want to say I was just playing around on the internet one day, and randomly typed in "totalwar.org" instead of "totalwar.com" just for kicks.... And lo and behold, it pulled up a forum where people were discussing Shogun. :2thumbsup: Imagine my surprise and delight!

I *think* that's what happened anyway. I just know I didn't find it through totalwar.com, as I didn't stay in the forums there long enough to find a link to this site. (Even back then in 2000-2001, the Org was a friendlier, more genteel place than the offical message boards--I never did get an account set up over there.) I just lurked here for a long time, reading threads and picking up tips here and there for dealing with the stupid Takeda and Imagawa clans (you really hate those guys when you're playing as Hojo or Uesugi!). After what was probably a year or so, I finally signed up as a member--most likely because Medieval had finally been announced, and I wanted to join in on the general gabbery. :laugh4: I've been a loyal member ever since!

Hmm, good question! I would have found Totalwar.org a few months or so before STW's release, having read a preview & played the demo, when looking for more info on the game. I can't remember if I used a search engine or a link from another site. Probably a search. If it was indeed a search, I imagine I would have used Google, as that became my primary search engine sometime in 1999.

The site looked quite different back then, with quite a lot of content on the website itself. IIRC, I don't think I even ventured into the forums until after the game itself was released.

Wow good one mate. Way back in the mists of time (well 5 years) when the Insane clan was set up, our founder (InsaneProphecy) was buddies with AggonyAce who set up the Aggony clan at around the same time (although I do believe we pre-date them ~D )

Peeps got talking in game and we went to each others message boards and lo and behold a link to the .org was found.

Came had a look around and left for about a year. I believe more and more 'Aggonys' and 'Insanes' came looked and posted, and so I came back when I was invited by the Admins and stayed ever since.

A good day.

Back in the days of Shogun I spent muchos time on the .com, would always hear people talking about "the org". The way people talked about it was that "the org" was for the more mature, more knowledgable players. Eventually in the days just before MTWs release I left the .com and its horrid yellow on black text and have been at the Org and its more knowledgable and mature gamer (as long as you stay outside the backroom ~;) ) ever since.

It's funny that I should see this...

I was just thinking that I dont even know what website this is...lol

I found it by first going to the official page for TW...their forum is run by EZBoard...and is not informative at all...

then I searched the net (yahoo) and Frogbeastegg's Guide came up (it consistently comes up too)...hit the link...bookmarked it...lol

the funny thing is when im not at home I have to do a search (rome total war and the guild)...lol...and I usually get some link to one of the forums...and that is the only way I know how to find this place...lol...that's pathetic isnt it?

It all started long, long ago...........~

IN THE 70'S....sitting around in the past doing what all teens do -even now- the members of R.F.R. were lost in their snow tunnels that they had just finished digging -in their parents front yard- so they'd have a place to hide and drink their magnum of bubble wine~ . With no power yet installed -that came later- music :thrasher: was needed to cover the sound of ~:smoking: inhalement :2thumbsup: :2thumbsup: and abberrant :furious3: conversation so the gathering members broke out into song and merriment. :idea2: From that day forward a great Sykotyk tradition and many more gatherings were held to sing, play instruments and create music. Eventually members found a person with a P.A. and a chainsaw Tada- Psycho's Slave Den - :burnout:

I found it through a google search back in the long days of STW and MTW:viking: . I just lurked for years till I saw Blue Lotus and Hoggy asking for help...so thanks to him you have to put up with my occasional posts. .....or else I would still be lurking :embarassed: ...damn those lurkers :laugh4: (not really for those that can't take a joke) they should just jump in and enjoy the jaccuzzi.

Ya that's right LURKERS - for posters there is a free:dancinglock: cyber spa membership, massages, gym, time share in Florida Grand Everglades Alligator Hotel :croc: , wine and cheese by fire light along the great shores of Lake Superior ~:snowman: (ya its winter here but some people like that), subscription to Total War threads published by the posters here at the forum, a brick of green cheese:balloon2: , a poster of the CA staff in TW gear, oh the list goes on and on so LURKERS post its a good THINK!~:grouphug:

Good question, Kukri. :2thumbsup:

I was an old STW-MTW fan, though a lone wolf who never once did think he would meet a fellow, breathing daimyo. STW held a special place in my heart as one of the greatest games I've ever played and the first time I stayed as late as 4 a.m. for a game. Only when RTW came out and I bought it (gleefully -- it's Total War!) that I decided to scour the net just for fun. Got to the .com looking for patches ("just in case"), found 1.1 (and thought how useless it was, since I'm no multiplayer-gamer and liked my elephants high and mighty), found a link of teh org on "Community" section.

Clicked that link.

Loved the guides forum, so decided to join but didn't know what name to use. Remembered something about some Seleucid king (I loved the Seleucids) so chose his name as my forum name; joined in and stayed in the Colosseum in its heyday. Posted quite a lot ("way too much") though not really spam (ha!) and found my way into the Backroom.

It was horrid. ~;p

So I stayed, had a happy time with the Mead Hall, then had a lapse in community participation, otherwise known as missing from the forum for months. Returned some time later when I was extremely bored. Got back into the Backroom and stayed ever since.

Might be leaving soon, though, if I get my new computers and a slew of games to consume my time. IF...which means far within the murky future. If I ever leave, however, I'd still haunt the Mead Hall and the Monastery's Interactive History threads, though the Backroom might be taking too much time from my life. Methinks I'll not post in the Backroom for a while just to get some time to see the sun again. :sweatdrop:

The first forum (and the first politically-charged sub-forum as well as literary sub-forum) I've ever been in the internet and still, by far, the best Evar.

So .com.

I googled for some totalwar-fansite to get some tips for playing M:TW.

I looked at the .org and the .com but started browsing the board at the .org as it was optically more appealing (the default skin at that time made it more pleasant to read than the black .com board).

I liked the very friendly and helpful atmosphere and registered after a couple of days of lurking (first game-site I registered at).

Not sure really, but in a time long ago I think that I was engaged in a half-hearted, desultory search for info on some Japanese related matters, when I stumbled across the .org, a place where a bunch of guys were discussing seemingly everything under the sun as they were waiting (and waiting, and waiting, apparently ad infinitum) for some game called Shogun to be released. Honest guys, it will be out soon!
So, I waited too, not only because I was British and so had a cultural predilection for patiently joining queues, but because it was a superior forum, not just a vile pernicious flame war. I've transgressed the rules on occasion myself, but I've always accepted the iron rule of the .org admin.
Luckily, as a bonus, Shogun actually turned out to be a pretty nifty game. I only purchased it because of the .org and I was glad that I did. :2thumbsup:

Hey dude_128....

if you cant post your message in the correct forum.
Try posting in the enterance hall,
and a kind mod will moove it for you.

Although I think your able to post in the apothecary, I am not 100% sure.

But the error sounds like you havent patched the game correctly.

open a new topic about it and im sure we will get it fixed in time.
