PLaying my first campaing on RTW, as Brittania about 230bc. I've got 20 odd provinces - most of Gaul, Germania and NE Europe. But everyone keeps attacking me!!

I've been in a war with Germania from the beginning, just finished them off now. Then Gaul attacked me, I've got the upper hand with them, they're just left with Celtiberia, Transalpine Gaul and Dalmatia, but they do have some strong armies. Then my long time allies the Julii decided to launch a surpise attack into my central European provinces, and of course the Senate, the Brutii and Scipii joined in. Now Spain has decided they want to have a piece of me as well and are besieging one of my Gallic Towns.

None of them seem interested in peace "why want peace? some of you are still alive!". I'm like, "will everyone please stop attacking me?". I can't take on the Gauls, Julii, Scippii, Bruttii, Senate and Spain all at once!

Is it like MTW, where once you get so big everone just gangs up on you?

I also have played Brtannia. Everybody, the Gauls, the germans, The Romans and the Spanics have attacked me. I think it`s so, because you are the danger No.1 for them.and if you are at war with i.e. Spain and your troops are in the south, near Spain, the Germans will use this situation and attack you. Look, if faction you want to attack is at war with another faction you will also attack them because their troops aren`t next to you and it ist much easilier than before.

When ever you have a land border with a faction, you can expect that faction to attack you sooner or later. You can buy some time with an alliance and by keeping border cities heavily garrisoned, but eventually they will attack.

If you think Britanna's foes are too strong and many, then you should try Carthage. Britanna's units have the upper hand in the early war (And late). So nothing should be a problem. Run some of your chariots through spanish infantry and they rout. Same with Romans and with everyone else. If they don't rout, charge with infantry after chariots, their units would all be on the ground and given to you on a golden plate.

The A.I. does indeed like to attack you in preference to any other faction. Off course, some factions are more reliable than others. In my Julii campaigns the Spanish always attacked my after I took Narbo, despite the trouble I took to secure an alliance. The Britons are in a bad position as well. I assume this is because your production facilities are a long way off, so the A.I. surmises you are weak.

To summarize: the R:TW A.I. is even more of a nutter than the M:TW one. Don't bother spending much time or money on establishing friendly relationships. The game is about Total War after all.

But all I want is a little peace!!

A piece of Spain, a piece of Italy, a piece of Egypt... :laugh4:

Yes but a British empire at 200 bc is histrically incorrect :laugh4:

The game has always been that way for me even on normal difficulty. What I don't understand is that they are causing a major threat to you. Now if they did a little extra programming, let's say the A.I. notices a new neighbor........ just ignores you for 10 turns, build up 2 stacks with possibly a decent stack of ships and go to town(literally) :laugh4: It would be so much better to see the A.I. declare war prepared instead of attacking a prepared enemy unprepared.

A good point. Though in my last campagin in 1.5, I was Scythia, deomlished Thracia in the first 10 years, they secured Byzuntium, then went in Germania. And I got back stabbed my Macedonia with 2 full stacks. (Not that that will do it, agaist my 10 HA armies :D ). So maybe it's fixed, who knows..

Yeah, the Spanish attacked and took Narbonesis off me with a full stack, and the Julii have 3 strong armies milling around my territory.

This ist the same situation i had:2thumbsup: First, you have to beat the spanish, not the Julii! you must hold the Julii on the status quo. If you reconquer Narbonensis, you will have to go into the enemy territory. The spanish want to do peace with you. In my game it always is so. Make the peace contract with Spain and take one, you need only one army, at the border to spain. Spain will never attack if there is a army at their border
