Will we be seeing archimedes' war inventions? I'm assuming some of his weapons were larger than the typical roman ballista, which doesn't really look so big.

I'd like the deathray as well...

It would be cool but unfortunately due to model space limitation it will just stay a dream...

Archimedes couldn't build one and neither could the Mythbusters. :shame:

Sadly, no we cannot.

However, Archimedes did invent a steam cannon that fired pieces of woods!

Kinda cool.
Too bad there wouldn't be a point in having such a weapon in RTW.

You actually came pretty close:

It's been proven vaugely possible, but not much else, sure as hell not practical.

Yup, Archimedes life and works are full of weird things that we'll probably never know the truth about.

I'm inclined to think the "death ray" was possible but I don't see how he could have got all those guys to stand just so with their shields. I expect it was just used to blind the crews, so they ran into each other.

Don't underestimate moral effects - if even one ship was destroyed by claw or set to fire with sunlight every crew would think twice before moving close to the walls. The effects - tower deployment was more difficult, rock throwers were less effective agains walls when put to far from them.

I'm inclined to think the "death ray" was possible but I don't see how he could have got all those guys to stand just so with their shields.I thought it was supposed to be a parabolic mirror? That would eliminate aiming problems. You'd still have to hope for clear skies, though.

I believe it was a load of guys with polished shields acting like a parabolic mirror.
