View Full Version : Settlement View CTD

Here's a problem...

A town has the same buildings, same default culture etc., starts with the same faction and with the same buildings...

One causes a CTD when you attempt settlement view (toward the end of the load bar), the other works fine.

What other factor could distinguish the two to cause such a CTD?

If you try to view it in the battle map view (which I think you do), it might be some of the random stuff in the settlement plan (you know, like every settlement looks a little different with those building models), it's just a shot in the dark though.

Both are roman towns with the same buildings and the CTD sticks with the same town and not the other. Unless the randomness is somehow attached to regions (and I admit to knowing nothing about settlement plans) your suggestion seems unlikely.

But thanks.

Shots in the dark are welcome at this point ;)

Well maybe they use some attribute of the settlement as a random seed or something.
What else could it be; it must have something to do with the models or the plan.
You say that the settlements are exactly the same, did you try to change a third settlement so that it is like them and see what happens?

Exactly.

The buildings (in those towns - core and defense only) and settlement plans are unmodded.

We will do further testing.

I'd have been tempted to say it's because you deleted the models/units listed in descr_lbc_db, but if the cities are owned by the same faction, that's not the issue.

Really weird though :dizzy2:

Oh, that was my first thought too - but, yes, same faction :)

What I'd do is to look at the map_ground_types.tga and map_heights.tga in the area where those cities are. Maybe moving the city a bit left/right/up/down might do the trick.

No, it also happens if you play a normal battle around that region. But it has worked fine before, and I can't see any changes that could cause this kind of problems.
It is very strange.

I've come up to a solution that it must be map related. I've made custom battle maps that uses a tile from that region, and it CTD. It's definately not settlement plan related, rather map related. I've checked the map and the heights file seems fine, and so does the ground types and climate files. Does anyone know of any other files that would interact with the battle map?
Oh, and it's not model related or map_features.tga related either.
Please help me out on this one;)

Problem solved.
It was related to the new climate I had created. I had forgot to add its entry in the descr_geography file and some other files concering battle-map geography. I was hoping it used default bu itself;)
Though some of the cities/places wasn't in that region with the new climate, it crashed. Possibly because you would see a place that had that climate from a distance.
Anyways, thanks for your help.
