Our computer at home is tight on space on the hard drive - it is only 20 G - I got home last night and my wife said "I have a confession - the computor was realy slow, so I have had to remove your game" - To clarify - "Your game " is MTW/VI - with 2 campaigns I had been running since before Christmas - so sadly my Irish campaign - as featured in How to win in the Viking campaign thread and my Byzantine campaign - as featured in the Empire managing strategy thread - will be unfinished gems lost in time and space.
The good news is that we intend to upgrade the hard drive to at least 160 G - so I could have vanilla and a mod on!!! :jumping:
So - a note to all my loyal readers - expect a new exciting campaign thread to start in Feb!!!!!!~
Uff da, that's harsh Kurt! I mean, it's great you're upgrading your hard drive, but that still really sucks you lost both campaigns you were working on. Ah well. That just means that the Byzantines' rise from the ashes will be all the more glorious.

She's lying, the computer was fine. She wants you to spend more time with her. Go out dancing or buy her some shiny trinket quick before a "power surge" blows up your computer.

The Savegames are actually pretty small. I'd say this is grounds for divorce :furious3:
Definately grounds for a divorce. She should have at least asked you first, or backed up the save games, to just delete them with a confession later is cold man.
On the bright side, your married, so this incident might be used for some potential gain on another issue :laugh4:

that sucks
HD and the fact that you lost your game.
I keep all my save games on three places: a CD-RW, my 40GB Master HD, and my 40GB "Slave" Backup HD, that way if I lose my save I have 2 backups t get it off of.
and the CD-RW is an easy way of transfering save games to another comp if you don't have LAN

This man speaks the truth. Instead of just telling you she wants you to spend more time with you, she does this. So... spend the time (she is your wife after all) and then quietly reinstall the game in a week or two. ;)

if she is your wife....spend the darn time, do what she wants, use it as leverage to get a kid or something

Thanks for the marrige advice from everybody!!
We get a new hard drive soon so I will be happyily gaming again soon - we plan to upgrade with a new machine later this year which is good as the processor is a little long in the tooth and our graphics is definately lacking.
As for this being a subtle plan from my wife to get more attention - she doesn't believe in subtlety - if she wants attention she just tells me!! - but I have developed a sixth sense about such things - thats what 14 years of marrige and 2 kids does!!~

KK, has she physically deleted the saves? IIRC, when you uninstall MTW, it still leaves a totalwar directory - includind the savegame folder. If you haven't already, I would go back and double check this.

When I reinstall - will they be there? or do I need to find them, save them then install them when I have reinstalled. We will ghost our current hard drive onto the new hard drive so we should pick it up if it is still there.~

I suggest you find and save it. It might still be there when you reinstall, but you never know.

I have to make up for some of the goofy stuff I say in the back room over a pint (or twelve) :barrel: .

Good news - I checked last night and the save game file is there with all the files in it so I will save those as a back up for when we ghost the new drive etc.
One thing I did notice was each save was about 3.5 meg - as you can save up to 100 that is a potential .3 to .4 of a gig if you use all of the slots so if you are tight for hard drive space, ditch any saves you don't need.
My only problem - I will have to delay putting on the mod now as I have unfinished business with the Sicilians!!

One thing you might want to consider: WinXP allows for defining a strict rule for installing/uninstalling applications. Just make sure installing/uninstalling rights are given to you specifically - and the problem is gone ~:)
On a sidenote: yes, MTW leaves savegames undeleted. I had to uninstall my MTW last night :wall: because it started freezing for no apparent reason (the recent attack of frost in Poland ~:snowman: must have had something to do with it, apparently), but my two current saves (including my new Expert Early French GA campaign) were there :2thumbsup: . I promptly made a backup, just in case they get mysteriously overwritten during a re-install...
