Medieval 2: Total War (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/medieval2totalwar/index.html) has just been announced for release Q4 2006.

Individual men have differing skins and models and weapons within the same unit. No more clone armies.

Troops become bloodier and muddier as the battle progresses. No more super shiny clean units.

No more obnoxiously bright unrealistic faction colors on units.

Huge towns to seige with layers of walls.

A map that expands all the way to central and south america where you can fight the Aztec Empire.

All the diplomacy from the original Medieval is back. Give away your daughters. Start Crusades. Etc.

Higher detail units and terrain.

New animations including parrying/blocking, combo attacks, and finishing moves for a more chaotic looking combat.

Bleh. It looks like it'll be nice and have different content than the original MTW, but I still wish they had gone out and done a different place or time. At least this doesn't reek of rehash too much.

the only other thing is how my PC will be able to cope well with this. it looks beyond RTW's graphics and power

To me "rehash" implies that the original wasn't good, and that couldn't be further from the truth...

Yeah I also wonder what sort of system requirements will MTW2 have. I wonder if my shiny 7800GTX will be good enough for this game on max settings??!! RTW is a bit of a system hog, the engine needs to be tweaked a lot for efficiency and better usage of system resources and latest hardware.

I am otherwise quite pleased with the Medieval setting and time period. Wonderful variety in cultures, religions, armies etc. Hope CA does a thorough job and doesn't leave out little (but important) stuff like campaign battle replays, unfinished walls, stats sheets, meaningful diplomacy, etc.

Though RTW is highly modable, it would be great if MTW2 could be even more so.
