I have just recently purchased Total War. I have been playing the Campaign mode and due to my inexperience I have been using the .muchkoku. cheat which is supposed to give me infinite Koku. This works fine at the beginning, but after a while I get a message saying that I don't have enough Koku to build or train new soldiers nor buildings. This happnes even though I have a lot of Koku and it should be enough to train the troops. Even though such a message appears, I am still able to build building, but I am NOT able to train any new troops, which basically gets me stuck in the middle of the game due to the lack of offensive troops. Does anyone know what is going on??? Your help will be really appreciated.

just type the cheat in again.

BTW, if you're burning through that much cash and you're still using the cheat, don't expect much sympathy from some .Org users when you begin to notice that having lots of money might nothelp you through everything *cough* Hojo Horde *cough*

There's no way you could burn thru that much cash anyway! Unless your trying to build in every province! Then you're just pissing it away anyway since the build queue will only allow so many things at once.

Can't understand people who use this cheat.

It's the economic's that make the strategy part of this game interesting, particularly the differences between the clans. Switching that off with a cheat just turns the whole strategy game into pointless mush.

Yep, your right - the campaign is a challenge combining economic and military strategy, in which your battlefield tactics play a major role. Use the cheat and you remove the economic element and make the military strategy much less challenging.

My advice to a newby getting to learn the ropes of the SP campaign is to choose to be the Hojo Clan cos its easy - it has the stongest starting position of all the clans - and don't cheat! Go on the offensive early, and spend your koku on troops in preference to buildings.

I've been playing this game in SP campaign for months now and its well worth sticking with it.

Wellllll, I don't know about the economic thing being part of the fun, but it does add a certain dubious, and not terribly historic challenge to the game. I bought the STW to FIGHT, Koonagiiiiiii!!!. I've enough minutia in my daily life, without worrying with Samurai accountants. I play the AI on expert and use the koku cheat so I don't have to watch my pennies at the outset. I don't go insane with the extra cash, usually having no more than one premium troop producing province, and one or two fodder factories. Truly, as you sweep the map, defeated clans leave behind enough ports, dojo's, ect. to free you from having to buy them. I rarely use those either. When you consider that one needs only about three to five (major)armies at the height of the game, that isn't all that much koku. Don't try to match the enemy with huge & unnessary amounts of troops. The better you fight, the less koku you need. Consider what Robert E. Lee did, with far less resources of men & material, to the Union army for the 1st half of the Civil War. In fact, defeated Union troops (supplied) the Confederates with huge stores of supplies & armaments. The Union didn't start winning until it had competent generalship & seasoned (high honor) troops. STW is no different. My point is, the economic aspects of the game are somewhat suspect in any case, so what the hell. Key, fight battles and have fun. Keep a keen eye on enemy unit types & movement and the bar in the green, and you won't need nearly as much funding for armies. You want a real challenge? Look at that victory banner when your guys marched into one of those "Hojo hoard" provinces and drove the enemy from the field, with 1300+ heads taken & 200 & change lost. Woooogiiii!!!

the you might as well stop playing campaign adn just play Custom or MultiPlayer. See you on the battlefield (..your backs anyway http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif)

Exactly Soly!

If all you want to do is fight then forget the campaign game because its about strategy which invariables involves nasty things like planning, resource management and budgetting.

Just get stuck in on MP or Custom battles. There's a wider range of maps and you don't have to go through all the monotony of clicking the end turn button while you wait for your dojo's to build.

OOOOOOhhh. That sounds like a challenge Solypsist! By the way, thats a curious and ironic handle you have there given the circumstances. I disagree though. I needed to learn how to maneuver armies on the field, and WIN with the absolute lowest number of casualties. (This) is the pleasure & challenge of the game for me. I can win the game on expert without the muchkoku cheat but it's tedious and not nearly as much fun as building armies with various clans and fighting in all the provinces.
I would like to try multiplayer though. I've just been to lazy to figure out how to do it. When I do though, I'd be honored to meet you on the field of battle. You can bet I won't take you for granted as I do with the too often predictable and stupid AI.

Is the curious spelling of solipsist a personal thing or another one of them darn yankee thangs?

it's spelled that way for the same reasons you Brits spell the word gray with an 'e' (grey) and color with an extraneous 'u' (colour) http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

you cheeky monkeys! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

It's spelled that way for completely arbritrary reasons, just like those impractical Brit spellings - I could think of a few wonderful suggestions for some of you guys! Grrrrr......

Hiya, sorry to sound stupid, but where do you go to type the muchkoku cheat in? Cheers.

Catiline

Cheers, I'll give that a go later (don't think work would be too pleased if I started playing it here!) Do I put the dots either side of the word and then hit enter? Do I not need to get to a console first?

console? WTF are you referring to? Load up the game, wait until the big map of Japan appears and then type it in. Prepare to become easily bored within a short matter of time.

Solypists, what do you have against the muchkoku cheat? If one follows the tried & true strategies with the various clans, one can win even on expert: Seasonal juggling of taxes from punative to low, the 1st turn province smash, etc, etc, ad infinitum. Whats so great about that? If you like to fight battles, playing on campaign level lets the AI build up it's own armies, without one having to hand pick the opponent's army ala custom battle mode. The MK cheat just frees one from the tedious penny watch. You still have to understand troop abilities & weaknesses & watch what you send into a given province. It goes without saying that recklessness is punished exactly the same way. I've had the inevitable avalanche of rival Daimyo armies pour into one of my provinces and I usually send them out severely diminished the way they came. Granted, I get away with more from the AI than I would from all but the most foolish human opponent. Ah well, to each his own.

the bummer is that limitless finances leads to careless human resource management. whats the big deal if you win a province yet lose double the men thatn your opponent? You can always make more; so much for tactics and a "realistic" battle design.
i dont really care who uses the much koku cheat, it's just human nature to give more respect to gamers who play within certain restrictions than those who need an infinite handicap.

I see your point. Yes, limitless resources & excess often go hand in hand. I was just sticking up for all the folks who don't care for the resource management aspect of the game. Truly, a prodigy at that could be beaten to incontinence on the field. This may sound silly, but every time I send in my little guys (regardless of how I got them, or whether there's more where that came from), I actually feel responsible for them. Call me crazy, but I feel sort of bad when I wreck an army through carelessness. We're on the same page about besting the opposition with the absolute fewest casualties. As I read this, I realize just how badly I need to get a life... Ahem. Oh well, have a good one!
