MOSCOW, Russia (AP) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin boasted Tuesday that his country has missiles capable of penetrating any missile defense system, Russian news reports said.

Glad to see they are doing things to better the standard of living in their country. :book:

Indeed - countries with significant numbers of citizens living under the poverty line would be well advised to spend more money on the well-being of the population and less for developing new weapon systems...

All that fallout would make Russia quite warm though. Must be tempting at the moment.

I wonder if they really have it? Not that it matters, really. The Missile shield would be useless against the kind of attack Russia likely would launch.

Smells a little like BS to me. Why would you announce something like that to the world?

'We have a missile that can penetrate any defense system... no really- we do.... so... don't even bother building one.... ummm... cuz it wont work.' :laugh4:

Are you kidding? A country that has just shut down all independent media could well buy a better missile. It's not like anyone will complain.

Putin said during a televised news conference that Russia's missiles were capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

Couldn't resist...

Now that wouldn't be a not quite so subtle dig at your friends across the pond, now would it? ~

It can penetrate any system? so like if Russia shot a missle at America and USA rolled a 20 it would still get in right? I don't like the sounds of this, we better ready our crotch rockets to return fire

It was more a dig at the comment that went with the link than at the military spending of the US. ~:)

You are right though - it probably lacked finesse :shame:

...because weapons of mass desctruction won't scare off anybody if nobody knows you have them? :idea2:

Stealth missile? No radar profile?

Can't Putin just buy a Football team and spend all Russia's money on players....like all the other Russian billionaires?

Anyhow, all weapons have counters, or will have counters soon enough. As far as I've heard noone has developed a missle faster than the speed of light yet? ... I mean have they?

Wouldn't an airbourne laser nullify a hypersonic craft's speed advantage? Isn't Boeing developing the ABL demonstrator (albeit not without the usual costly "difficulties"). Stealth woks well on radar, not so well in other wavelengths, and not at all at masking the temperature signature such a missle would generate.

The missile defense system is pretty crappy anyway, they don't even need this type of bomb.

For the record, it's hard enough making a regular missile go where you want it to, making a missile that can scramble its path would be quite an achievement. From a control engineering point of view anyway...

Also: Why is Russia so concerned about the US missile shield ? Are they up to something :inquisitive: :inquisitive: :inquisitive: :help:

Another country that thinks in war before other closer and more important subjects, no wonder why we're still having wars regularilly in this paranoic existence.

On a side note: Would this be an statement to support his stance against USA and Europe regarding the Iran issue with nuclear power?

I don't undestand why exactly they need a new kind of missile. The only, country, that has missile defense technology is the US and even that isn't that great. Where is the threat?

When the USA first said they were building the misile shield, Russia said "oh, then we'll just make all our missiles with multi targeting warheads" as said, even a few would saturate the grid.

Why tell the world?? IMO, Russia has a very small economy, its army is basically a mess. How can it still play with the Big Boys? Well, by saying that it could still destroy the world - not subtle, but effective.

And what is the workd going to do? nothing of course - we never pick on threats, we only pick on small potential threats. :dizzy2:

it's rather moot: the Russians have many more missiles than we could ever hope to shoot down. they dont need new technology to hit us - they just need to launch more than a few percent of their bombs.

methinks this is a political move. is it just coincidence or is it a mild threat? because im sure it's russian scientists who are building these nuclear plants in iran..

Stealth missile? No radar profile?

THat was directed to me?

It makes sense to announce they have this technology. Firstly it makes no sense to hide you have nukes- watch Dr. Strangelove if you don't believe me ~:D - because it won't deter anyone from attacking. The missile shield the US is supposedly developping would render them less vulnerable to nuclear attacks, and the MAD principle may not apply anymore. If you have a countermeasure available it makes sense that you announce it so that the enemy is now detterred again, knowing nothing will protect them.

Its the new version of the Topol Missile. Russia has been working on that for quite a while now They have made many test launches already. The trick is not in stealth technology or anything like that but the speed and manuoverability of the missile.

More ways to kill the world 50x over instead of 40x over if you ask me...if it's true of course. Still, perhaps if it's army is so **** then weapons are it's only hope to stay on the world stage.

I just hope Putin doesn't feel the need to sell these things to China, North Korea, or Iran. They give us enough headaches as is.

I don't think Russia is in excessively good terms with any of them - all the more so as their strategic planners are probably even now losing sleep over possible interest clashes in Central Asia.

Anyway, methinks Putin and the Boys have better holes to sink their money into. They ought to start with paying their soldiers regularly and trying to keep their already extant weapons properly maintained - as it stands pulling down their pants and slapping a big new shiny missile on the table is a kinda empty gesture when their military has long since demonstrated its inability to conquer their own back yard effectively.

Sort of like giving your fence a new paint job while the roof is falling in.

I still find it funny how everybody in the west seems to become jealous as soon as Russia has something better than the west.~D
I´m not a commie btw, but you Americans already have you uber 1337 Airforce and the amount of money and training your army has to brag with, why can´t you just let Putin have the bigger breasts while you keep your longer.....~;p ~;)
And no, it´s not personal, just a general statement.

How do you know that exactly... I highly doubt that you have access to all our classified military research devisions.

The only reason Putin said this was to show he was still tough to all those old communist hardliners.

On one hand I doubt that you have access to all of Russia´s classified military research devisions, so we both can´t really tell.
On the other hand, my prejudice tells me that America likes to brag about it´s technology and present it to the world, to show how 1337 they are. Others do that as well, no doubt, it´s just that I hate freedom and democracy.~;)

I don't need access to Russia's tech. to make an educated guess about their military capacity. We brag, but I guarantee we always have something to surprise you. :book:

The similarities between Russian state and Sadamm's Iraq are quite striking, I just wonder why Dubya isnt campaigning for a "regime change" in Moscow....
