View Full Version : Anybody else make a New Year's Resolution to quit smoking?

I did.
Still not smoking, but it's been pretty rough. Even though I go to the gym 6 or 7 times a week I've still gained about 8 pounds (not good pounds either). I've had to pretty much live like a hermit for the past 33 days because I know as soon as I'm out at the pub with the lads I'll crumble and light up. Life just doesn't seem as fun anymore. But I'm told that everything will start getting easier soon.
I just hope it's very soon...
Just do what I did. Have a near-death, life threatening asthma attack. That'll help ya kick the habit.
Went from a pack a day to nada una in 24 hours and never looked back. Been years and years and years. If I took a good puff of a cigarette right now I'm sure I'd barf on the spot.

I made a resolution to never quit smoking. Good thing I don't smoke cigarettes.
Edit: maybe I should have specified this earler, but I smoke cigars. Better taste, and better for you.

I've picked up on smoking only half a year ago, and I don't feel compelled much to already quit. Besides I only smoke a pack per week or something like that.
Every stinking year :wall:

I don`t know. Might be because it is unhealthy.

Unhealthy is a relative term. I think cigarettes can be addictive to some people. But they are not inherently mosre unhealthy then other substances. It is all about proportions. Somke too much and see what hapens. Eat too much and see what hapens. Run too much and see what hapens. Sleep too much and see what hapens.

Well, still. The less unhealthy things one does, the better.
As a side note, one of the most unhealthy you do in your life, is to breathe. Oxygen kills you you by oxidizing.

I'm not.
I am however making a resolution to not START smoking. I'm under some heavy pressure to start because I'm on varsity soccer with all older kids and now my first year in high school. If I don't start, I'll never have to quit!:2thumbsup:

Actually, you did start a cigar thread a while back. :laugh4:

:inquisitive: Sure... Lost 2 family members to lung cancer, including my dad (and another one to smoking and a lot of other bad habits, like drinking)... never to running, sleeping or eating... Besides, it is harmfull towards other people too, unlike running, sleeping or eating. But I see your point...:dizzy2:
However, who wants to smoke, just should do it, of course, I've got some friends who still smoke, and I can't bothered by that (I dislike people whining, even if it's against bad habits). Still, I do applaud people who have to sense to quit. Well done Goofball! :2thumbsup:
I tried it once and didnt like it, i cant see why its addicitve, but can see why people smoke for social reasons etc...

Trust me, a drinking problem is one hell of a lot worse than a smoking problem. It damages so many more aspects of your life than smoking.
And Strike- I agree with you on cigarettes, but cigars and pipes actually do produce a high of sorts, in that they are physically relaxing. Also, they taste good (to those who like them.)

Off topic here, but some kids at my school have copenhagan, and they say all you do is suck on it in your lower lip. How does the high occur? Does the juices you swallow create it?
Just wonderin...:juggle2:

I believe it is absorbed by the inner lining of the lip. It is fairly porous/absorbent and the nicotine and other chemicals don't have much trouble getting through. This doesn't happen without side-effects though boviously....

If you smoke cigars for a while, you can press down on your upper lip with your tongue, and find bumps underneath the surface; they cluster where you place your cigar most of the time. For me, it is the right side of my mouth. Kinda creepy, but fun too.

Heh, I was once tempted to make cigar smoking a regular habbit. Now, I'm not so sure. I'll get out a calendar and smoke once a month... I'm such a nerd.
I personally can't stand cigarettes. There is something about the smoke that makes me cough any time I actually inhale, and they taste awful.

I quit chewing about a year ago:2thumbsup: I now realize its a disgusting habit in hindsight.
EDIT: Also it's a lot more miserable to quit chewing than smoking, considering there is 60 times the amount of nicotine in a can of chew compared to a box of ciggies.
