Hello everyone,

I was hoping that somebody could help me out with a strange problem I'm having. I bought the BI expansion yesterday, and installed it. After playing it a while, I wanted to check just to make sure regular RTW still worked. Much to my surprise, it didn't run. It got to the RTW title screen, and then abrubtly crashed to the desktop. I think I have the problem traced to mods that I made to the game. I downloaded several modded units, and installed them before the BI installation. I started from scratch and reinstalled both RTW and BI, and everythign worked fine. As soon as I copied the files pertinent to those added units (EDU DMB etc..) it crashed again. Is there somethign that I need to do in order to allow my added units to work now that BI is installed? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I had similar diffculties. You didn't mention patch level. I think screwed up by installing the 1.5 patch and then the 1.6 patch. Only the 1.6 patch is necessary if you have BI; installing both seemed to cause problems for me.

I also found that using the show_err switch gave me some useful information; you might try using it if you haven't already.

Some file layouts have changed in BI so chances are that you'll probably not be able to use your old modded files unless you port them to BI. I think you can find a thread about what changed somewhere here.

Thanks very much for the suggestions. I finally figured out what Show-err is and how to use it, and was able to figure out my problem as a result. Apparently with vanilla RTW only installed, you can use Romans Jullii as a faction name in the EDU file. With BI installed, it has to be Romans_Julii instead. After I changed all instances of Romans Julii the modded files worked fine. Very minor difference, but it sure caused me alot of headaches. Thanks again for the helpful suggestions!!
