Ouch. I'm gonna have to upgrade, alright. It has also been rated, so hopefully it will come out in a month or so...
What are the PC system requirements?
Recommended:
3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
1 GB System RAM
ATI X800 series, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card
http://www.elderscrolls.com/games/oblivion_faq.htm
I'll be getting it for the Xbox360. The higher than high system requirements are why I shelled out $575 in the first place.

No Oblivion for me.

Ouch. Fortunately my system meets the recommended requirements - just - but still. Ouch.

My PC will struggle with anything higher then the lowest settings, but that won't stop me from buying it. Hell I've already pre-ordered the collectors edition! First time ever that I went for a collectors edition, because this one seems worth it!
Cool, Im just inside of the recommended specs- should be fine. :sweatdrop:

Yeah, I'm gonna get a job (gah!) to pay for the graphics card. Lets hope I can find a place that will accept a dude with a ponytail.

Dont lose all hope- the minimum specs are much more lenient:
# 512MB System RAM
# 2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
# 128MB Direct3D compatible video card
# and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver;
# 8x DVD-ROM drive
# 4.6 GB free hard disk space
Of course, it'll probably look like crap and run like a slideshow on that system.~D

I'm not sure any Starbucks (at least in the Northern VA area) will hire a male without one. Good luck.
How can you tell if your graphics card is higher or lower than the reference ones? Mine's a Radion 9800 Pro AGP 128MB. I think it meets the minimum, but maybe not the recommended?

Yep, that's about the minimum according to them. My computer meets the recommended requirements, but my wife is also lusting over this game and her computer doesn't so we'll have to do a major upgrade for her. All in all, Oblivion is looking to be very profitable for hardware manufacturers as well!

Holy [frog], my PC isn't going to run that, and I'll never be able to cut drinking & smoking enough to afford that sort of upgrades :wall:
Looks like I'll have to prostitute myself...again.

hmm I'm sure everything I have can handle it except my Video card, it's not the best one around and have been having trouble with it when I tried to play Battlefield 2.
ANyway it's a NVidia Geforce4 MX 440 with AGP8X, is that enough ?
Alternatively, does my card belong to the Geforce4 series, which seem to be good enough for the game ?
Thanks.

Nope your video card won't cut it. If you click the link and scroll down you'll find that the MX chipset isn't supported.
You can get a 9800 128mb for under $100 these days. That's not up to the recommended, but it's certainly above the minimum indicated. Even the recommended 6800 256mb can be had for about $220 these days, so it's not QUITE that bad. Then again, if you have to replace the video, cpu, mobo and ram you'll still be spending a substantial amount.

I have the same card. It might not run some things perfectly - but it runs everything well.

I...will...get...a...job.
Seriously.
Probably either at a library or a bookstore. Hopefully they'll accept high school juniors.
This baby is worth it.

ah as many others in this thread have said before me....should better get a job...
:balloon2:
It's not that bad. Even if you have to replace pretty much everything, you can meet the recommended requirements in cpu, mobo, ram and vpu for about $800. That will give you a very decent system that will almost certainly run MTW2 beautifully as well. If you want to go budget, you can meet the minimum for $400... and that's assuming you replace everything which isn't usually necessary.

Need: new processor, more RAM, new videocard, maybe new motherboard for said processor...
Add one more soul to the 'looking for a job' pool...
Actually, I plan on upgrading my PC end 2006/start 2007 anyway, so that just gives Bethesda enough time to sort out the major bugs :juggle2:

I have a job already...I should be able to put enough money aside for new hardware without going into prostitution (lame joke, sorry)
I wouldn't have upgraded for the sake of a single game, but MTW2 is knocking on the door too so I'll go through with it.

And so Oblivion has become the catalyst that inspires the growth of world economy...
:laugh4:
Actually, though, I should've find some jobs some time ago anyway, since I will have other expenses (exam costs--those bloody AP, ACT, and SAT fees (only the US students know these)--merchandise, cell phone bills, etc.) that I will use. I hate McDonalds so I'd rather starve to death than work for them. :skull: Oblivion just strengthened my resolve.

Well as a PC and XBOX 360 owner I have not decided yet...
But the fact that I just got my new wireless keyboard hooked up the the 360 is make me look in that direction a little more seriously... Now if the mouse would just work too... ;)
Looks at pc...... nope won't do.

Who cares what the specs are for this game? The Elder Scrolls game system is hokey and Morrowind was a piece of crap. I doubt that Oblivion will be that much better.

Hmm... my shiny new laptop *should* run it. Processor is only 2.16Ghz, but it is dual core. Graphics card is a 256Mb PCI-Express GeForce Go 7800, and I've got 2Gb RAM.
May not be top notch, but it'll certainly satisfy me...
(Just installed RTW, I can finally play on the highest settings!)

Hmm... My computer meets the recommended requirements except the video card. My video card is an Abit Radeon RX700-Pro. It's got 256MB and is PCI-Ex. My processor is an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (Winchester core). I've got 1GB of Crucial Ballistix RAM. How do you think the game will run on my system? I built this thing almost a year ago (this March will be one year). I had this game in mind when I built it (along with Silent Hunter III), so I hope my efforts won't be in vain.

Morrowind was my favorite RPG ever, behinds KOTOR. :2thumbsup:
What are you guys so worried about? If Morrowind was any indication then Oblivion won't be worth getting until at least a year or so after it's release. By then it will be well patched with at least one expansion pack and lots of really cool, well tested mods to make it that much better. And when that time comes I'm willing to be that most of us will have a system that can run it nicely.
The key is to find something else to tide you over in the meantime...

See, I wouldn't know anything about that because I got Morrowind last summer on Xbox for 15 dollars.
These recommended specs are not surprising. I’ll need to upgrade for Medieval II: Total War anyway...

Yeah...somehow I completely missed it. I rebuilt my HD recently and totalwar.com didn't get put back into my favourites afterwards, which is probably the main reason.
I found the Med 2 folder already, but thanks anyhow :)
