Dear All,
I have noticed that for me trying to play something unfinished was silly since I knew it was a beta and I had no technical knowledge of how to correct or bypass obstacles when they occurred. Worse still I see that many others maybe a bit like me cannot even get RTW back up and running never mind install EB. So I say to myself, the price for being old, what is the point of trying until the experts get it all sorted out? Surely the means and brains are there for someone somewhere to come up with a tool to instal 1.2 where machines say it is already there? If it means going into the registry to clear the darned thing then many people will never experience EB or RTR because we are not modders but rather game players. Everyone in their enthusiasm to see something has only complicated the matter by their impatience. What we have is a game that crashes all over the place for different reasons at different times. That must be soul destroying not only for the player but the makers who from the forum are inundated with reports that seem endless. Please, please someone, make the fundamentals first so that we all can enjoy a crash free game that is correctly installed. Every day I look in the patches section hoping to see something that will allow me to reinstall the mod but so far nothing. However, may I say that what I have managed to play was good. Certainly better than RTW and on a par with RTR who have the same problems with ctd's even on their RTR Gold.
Yours,

Hi Basics.

You are right in as much as the beta is not going to be enjoyable for everyone.

However the reason the makers of EB released a beta is for people to play test it to find the bugs.

Every game that is released has playtesters, as many developers just don't have the time to sit there and play every game right through to finish, i'm sure this is why EB creators released the beta.

It's the only reasonable way to find bugs, glitches and the like when you don't have a "proffesional" play testing team working for you.

If you need any help just PM me your MSN addy, and i'll try to help you out.

Personally, my current campaign as the Casse has been the most fun I've ever had, in any game, ever. I'm at the year 175. That's almost 100 years into it. That's almost 400 turns. It's not boring. In fact, it keeps getting better and better. I've never had a game-ending crash. Whenever one occurs, you turn off fow and let the AI take its turns slowly and boom, your back on track.

Actually none of this even matters, because it is a beta afterall, and everyone knows what they're getting into beforehand. But that's already been discussed thoroughly.

You are right that it is not for the casual player, but the open beta was released because the team did not have the manpower to test it extensively. They tried to do it, but there was leak in their closed-beta team. Also, there is a simple way to bypass the 1.2 registry trail: just use the zipped version of the 1.2 patch, available at the EB website.
