I was wondering if anybody could shed some light on what exactly is wrong with my MTW VI.
I hadnt played the game for some months, but disappointed by BI I turned back to MTW to have some real fun, it had the XL mod on it and the Reconquista mod together and worked fine. I uninstalled these and MTW VI so I could start afresh and use the BKB super mod.
Having done this, installed some official patches and installed the BKB mod I was looking forward to playing but everytime the game loaded and was just about to go onto the campaign map the game reset and I was back on my desktop.
I tried in vain to sort the problem out and the guys on the BKB super mod topic didnt seem to have an answer either. Unsure whether or not the mod had caused the problem I recently uninstalled everything relating to the game and started from scratch to play vanilla VI, but the problem persists.
What could possibly be causing it? all potential causes would be greatly appreciated so to eradicate this problem more easily.
The only changes to my PC in the time between last playing MTW and discovering the problem were a new monitor and new graphics card, nothing else has changed. All my other games work fine so why is MTW VI messed up?
All help appreciated.

Just to clarify, did you get the new video card between playing XL and Reconquista and BKB?
What you should find out is if the game runs after you instal vanilla and before you instal the BKB mod. Then you'll know if it isn't the video card but the BKB mod.
You could try reinstalling and making sure you get rid of every single file including save files and other stuff that sometimes hang around after a re-install. That way you can be sure you have a clean start.

I got the new graphics card after XL and recon, but never played the game with it, so perhaps the card is incompatable somehow, because I dont know if MTW VI ever worked when I got my new card.
I did reinstall MTW fresh and try it and it didnt work, but I was unsure if somehow over hte months of not playing something else has caused this problem.
Could it just be a graphics card problem?

It sounds like it. Maybe you have to update the card's drivers or download some extra ones for it. CA might have some sort of tech support too.

I've just installed the latest drivers for my card, but still the same problem.
My card is a Nvidia GeForce 6200, the game worked fine with an older nvidia GeForce model, so why not this one is a mystery to me.

It's the latest nVidia drivers, you need to downgrade to older drivers (like v53.04) but I'm not sure if that driver version supports the 6200 or not. I'm actually running 45.33 on my PC at the moment, no problems at all.

^^^ I did think that might be a problem, hence why I mentioned the new monitor I got, I don't know if it supports the resolution or not, i'm going to fiddle round and see if it works on alternate resolutions and post what happens.
I have this same problem, I cant play vanilla MTW or any of the mods
the game ctd whenevr I hit the campaign map

The newest nvidia drivers that work correctly with MTW is the v. 61.77, but the drivers will not work with the newest grathiccards sadly.
IIRC the BKB mod has the wrong pathway in the auto-installer. When you install the mod you need to change the pathway of the installation or you'll get CTD's when you choose a faction. Check the BKB installation instructions in the forum. You may just need to do a new installation.

Try setting your camp map resolution to 800x600. I managed to get it to work then.
Northnovas posted this in the Entrance Hall (Post (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?p=1067568#post1067568)):
Can't post yet to reply, but I just wanted to say that the CTD for campaign games. Having come back to the game I could play battles etc just could not start a campaign. I did not have to roll back to an old driver which would be unreasonable for other computer uses. I have the latest Nvidia driver. What I did was change the antiliasing setting on the card from 0 to 2. GE Force FX 5500. Fixed the issue The game runs great including saved games. No more CTD. Just a suggestion for anyone trying to get back into the game after an absence and may have made a hardware change.

Fantastic it worked :2thumbsup:
Reset the campaign map res? Hmmm.. might try that, it's CTD on my X850, whereas it was fine for my old G4 Ti4200... :(

Yeah, I would bet all my foodstamps you just got a Nvidia Card. Try the oldest drivers your GFX card can support and try again. I would bet 50/50 you will never be able to play the game with that card.

my situation almost identical to Aetius (did not like RTW decided to play MTW for old times sake) except i had not changed video card (using nvidia GE FX 5600 Winfast A310) or monitor - had not even updated any drivers but MTW would not work whereas before MTW had been quite stable for me.
Had tried XL mod - crashes. tried Medmod same. tried MTWVI 2.01 same. updated video card driver same result except MTW seemed to be running a lot smoother on camp map before it crashed.
Changed antialising settings to 2x as per Northnovas. been playing now for about 1 hour and all seems fine fingers crossed.
So thanks Northnovas and thanks Ludens for posting his advice. I know this is knid of old thread but thought some people may appreciate finding this thread to help with this problem now that MTW seems to be on a bit of comeback thanks to MTW2!!

I'm running MTW with the 71.84 drivers after using 61.72 drivers for a year on my 5900XT. Everything works fine, although the number of crashes when trying to return the campaign map has increased slightly, but not by a soul-destroying amount. I'm not going to use any newer drivers though, I can't see the point when my card is pretty old in the first place. But I also can't see the point in using really old drivers just to get MTW running smoothly for the occasional time I play it.

I have problem also with MTW+VI+XL mod (XL mod is not problem). When I installed Catalyst 5.10 I coudn't play any more (before that I have 5.4 and worked excellent) as battles have 3-6 framerate. Now I use Omega drivers, but game always go out into WinXP after 30 min or less (thanks God, there is quick save option). Graphic card is Radeon 9800pro. My friend have aplsolutely the same problem and he have Radeon 9600pro.
