I just signed up here, but have been looking on the forums for a while. I just updated from 1.3 after having the game ever since it came out. I had a question concerning the patches. Before I used a little helper/cheat when I was in a desperate situation during campaigns. I went into the Total War directory and changed the price of watchtowers to -5000 dollars. Now that I've updated the game the price of the watchtowers has gone back to being 200 or something. I went back to change the price again, but it hadn't changed, it was still -5000. I saved the file again and restarted my computer and everything, but it still doesn't work. I was wondering if there is anyway to get this to work with the new updates. I know cheating is highly frowned upon, but I could use some help. Thanks.

It may be that whatever changes you made are no longer recognized in the 1.3 patch (have you tried further upgrading to 1.5?)

Repeat after me: It's not cheating, since you are only playing against an inanimate object that doesn't care whether it wins or loses. You are simply modding the game that you paid for with your hard-earned money in order to make it more enjoyable for yourself.
There are some hoity-toities who will say you are "cheating" even if you are using features that the developers themselves put into the game (i.e. the "pause" feature). Ignore them. You play your game, they play theirs; don't ever let any of them make you feel small.

Yes I have upgraded to 1.5 and I've tried it and it still does not work. I am just really in depth into this campaign and now am stuck and can't get my watchtower cheat to work. If anyone can help me figure a way to do this without completely uninstalling the updates and going back to my earlier version then that would be much appreciated. Thanks, and please help me.

Brazzer22, if you don't mind me asking, I am curious why one would need the cheat at all. You are of course free to do as you please, but you shouldn't ever be in a position where you even need to cheat.
Have you maximized your economy-building efforts to get the most from your settlements? A few tweaks and you should be able to have an economic powerhouse in no time at all.
Just as an example, I have a campaign at around 255 or thereabouts. I have a full stack in Africa, A full stack in greece, and a full stack in the gaul region. Each are kicking butt of course. (All the better to thwart those rascally Julii and Brutii mwa ha ha).
Seriously though. Are you having trouble with your economy?

maybe the game has trouble with negative price figures ?
Not much of as modder myself, but would it maybe help if you just set the price as 0 instead of -5000.
You could also try posting in one of the modding sections, if you can't due to being a junior member Im sure someone would post it there for you.

It is a long shot, but perhaps the changes don't come into effect until you start a new campaign?

To my knowledge changes made to at least some files simply don't apply to campaigns already in progress. Dunno if the one that governs watchtowers is among them. Others do, but nonetheless require the deletion of the map.rwm file from the data\world\maps\base folder.
In the case the file is among the former group, it is possible the update "fixed" the issue in the campaign and the change won't apply until you start a new one. Just a theory though.

I agree. Though the only 'cheat' I do is toggle fow.
Anyway why dont you just toggle fow, it'll give the sight you need.

hmm thas is probably much smarter, you should try it.
Easier to use, and can be turned off with the same code.

I'll try starting a new campaign and seeing if the cheats work. Thanks for all your help, it's awesome. I will also post in the modding forum. Thanks a lot.
