I just found a webpage called: www.nationmaster.com
In the stats section, it's possible to find almost any stats by nation you want, and after finding a cathegory, you can click the correlations tab to see some of the other stats to which the stats you picked are fairly strongly correlated to. While some of the correlations can be due to causality, it's also possible to find quite unscientific correlations as well (listed below with the percentage of how strongly correlated the two stats are):
- Exports of paper industry machinery increases the number of winter olympic medals! - 66% :2thumbsup:
- Imports of plastic waste scrap causes more murders by firearms! - 71% correlation!
- Militaristic countries get more rice yield! - 73% :inquisitive:
- The number of abortions increases when the number of Mount Everest Ascends in the period 1991-2001 increases! - 93% ~
- Number of English speaking people in the country increases the number of tractors imported! - 95%
...a good example of how much randomly picked correlations we see in "statistics" from non-scientific newspapers and magazines are usually not worth worrying about... :wall: :laugh4:
