I would think they could have gave the "blow up" doll a better name. Will this inflame more people around the world? I think that they should try to find another name, but you have to admit Mustafa Shag is a pretty good name for a sex doll. Guess we'll wait and see...:wall:
What a letdown. I was expecting a pun on 'blow-up'.
Whatever, people take themselves too seriously.
While I defend the cartoon as political satire by a free press I have to say I am shocked by this. Not the doll itself. A sex doll is merely a thing. But calling it Mustafa and then failing to apologise when people understandably take offence AND calling it political correctness gone mad is indeed shocking. Jesus The Inflatable Doll available now for him and for her, batteries and lube not included!

I "liked" this comment:
"If anyone has a better name for a blow-up doll, please let us know."
Sounds a bit like they think that "Mustafa Shag" is the obvious best choice for a blow-up doll :inquisitive:

Sorry to let you guys down...:laugh4:
Anyway, its a pretty good name, but they could have found a better, less offensive one in my opinion. I'm just wondering if this is going to be the next "outrage" used by clerics and various state leaders to get their public more pissed.

I sure hope that this is not the case - that would just be a bit too surreal for my taste (imagine a boycot against the UK and burning British embassies just because some fools couldn't find an appropriate name for a friggin' sex doll)

Im quite apauled at the way These people carry on.
No wonder some extreemists want to blow us up.

Pish... They are jumping on the "Offended" band-wagon. No-one knew that Mustafa was a name for Muhammed, and it is a wonderful little pun so one cannot say that it was intentional...
I think"obnoxious" is terribly over the top to describe it... The two names reminds me of "Brave New World", when the pseudo-god Ford is also referred to as Freud, but that's besides the point...

I doubt that Ann Summers went out with the aim of ridiculing muslims, unlike one who went about making an inflatable Jesus sex doll. The name was selected for the wonderful pun of "Mustafa Shag" sounding like "Must Have a Shag"...

Funny, I didn't get the joke until now. I kept pronouncing the name 'Mooss-tah-fah' and it never came across.

this is serious:
you can get all sort of religious inspired sex toys (I saw it in bizarre a few years ago), including a baby Jesus butt plug. I can find a link to these crazy monkeys if anyone wants.
The makers of the doll undoubtedly didn't realise that Mustafa is another word for Mohamed. Surprisingly enough the majority of the worlds blow up doll manufacturers are not arabic speakers or amatuer islamic theologists. I remember a similar pun in a comic I read when I was a kid. There was a character called "Mustapha Phagg". Of course back then, there was virtually no political correctness anyway. But no one was offended, no one was interested. There were no do-gooders monitoring it or worrying about whether it might offend anyone, no demonstrations, no threats of terrorism. Now of course this character would be censored, the comics taken off the shelves, the editor fires and the, mainly fantical, muslims outraged.
And this is the whole point: Amazingly not all muslims are actually outraged by this! They're not exactly at the point where they want to go into the streets and start rioting, burning cars/flags/shops. They believe it's stupid, insulting and they're not exactly happy about it, but that's where it ends. Those that are demonstrating in the streets are the fanatics and the hooligans, such as the man that dressed up as a suicide bomber, that are creating the atmosphere that all muslims are somehow involved. They are exploiting this as an excuse to and justify their warped version of islam and gain more converts from the ranks of the muslim youth. The Daily Mail today chose to publish an article about the holy day Ashoura with sensationalist full colour images of bloodstained muslims engaging in flagellation. This gives the impression that muslims are mindless bloodthristy morons. Yet I saw no bloodstained muslims on my way home today. Most looked quite smart, well dressed, intelligent, and maybe tired, after returning home from a week of work. Though it does give this impression because I was in the position to observe several reactions to this article in my place of work, where I had intentionally left this paper (not mine btw) open at this page. Typical reactions were: "look at them, their religion is barbaric", "typical of them", "omg and they say they are peacful", "they're all lunatics" etc etc. This was undoubtly the type of reaction that the Daily Mail intended. A generalisation.
The issue is both freedom of speech and political correctness conflicting horribly. Our 'esteemed leader' Tony Blair was so fast to point the finger at islamic states for their lack of freedom of speech and basic human rights during the build up to the Iraq invasion. The anti-war protestors in london were "fortunate" that they had the ability to criticise the governments stance on the war (I'm sure they were so grateful for not being treated like the miners and only facing mild ridicule and humiliation (they were also completely ignored but that's beside the point)). Yet this freedom of speech is rendered useless when the curse of pc is added to the equation. You're free to state you're opinion but of course avoid religion, homosexuality, race and gender because you might upset someone or other or find yourself in court! So without the freedom to comment on such issues then what good is freedom of speech anyway we may ask? Well we can criticise politicians... but guess what they won't listen until the next election, when they'll pretend listen, then drop the farce once they're elected again! And you can say anything you like about the average working class Christian/atheist/don't know/don't care white man because no one cares about them anyway.
So why on earth are we so afraid of upsetting muslims with words? We didn't seem to worry about our bombs upsetting Iraqi's when they landed so what is all this about? Did Blair and Bush say something like: "bomb the @&%$ out of them but don't do the cartoons and blow doll thing, that wouldn't be nice"?
Back to the doll and cartoons: This sort of humour is part of British culture nowadays. Denying this and pretending that it doesn't happen is stupid. It does happen and it will continue to happen for the forseeable future. Jokes about this will be passed around offices/factories/workplaces nationwide. People will laugh at it, 99% of these people will not be muslim haters nor KKK members. Banning free expression pushes it into the shadows but doesn't eradicate this type of humour (which is what it is supposed to be).
Those that come here as immigrants, or live here as part a separate culture in it's own distinct cultural 'district', and want Britain to conform to their beliefs, adhere to their moral standards and never upset them nor offend their religion in any way, are deluding themselves that this country somehow owes them something. Unfortunately the government is sending out the wrong messages trying to appease these people on such petty issues on one hand and invading and occupying their homelands, and in doing stirring up more terrorism and giving more credance to the terrorist argument, on the other. This isn't working.
Why should we, as the taxpayer support those that despise western european culture and want to see it eradicated, such people as Abu Hamza and Sheihk Omar Bhakri Muhammed?? The masses at large are asking this exact question over and over again. They feel cheated, and that the governemnt won't listen to them nor respect them or their views. These clerics could not be challenged because we were so afraid of upsetting muslims. It's as simple as that. Repeated attempts were made to send Hamza down, repeated attempts were made to deport Bhakri Muhammed to no avail. The press simply had a field day with the whole "islamic hate preacher" thing and bigger divisions were created. Why were these people allowed to get away with this for so long, wheras the odious BNP were hauled, quite rightly, into court for their race hate propoganda? Surely all of these bigots should have been treated exactly the same, as both have the potential, the means and the will, to incite violence, intolerance and hatred? What is the next insane pc they will come up with..?
And this is the message that is going out to these people. e.g. "We can do anything we like because the British government are afraid to upset us. If they take us to court we will just play the race card..." This is exactly the type of protection some of these people have (albeit a minority but the minority that the press chooses to focus on). We are supposed to have a free press so why can't these newspapers publish what they want, within reason of course? And "within reason" is the big issue here. Where do we draw the line? What is reasonable? Pictures of the prophet mohamed are known, by most educated people, and certainly those in the press, to be offensive to Islam. Documentaries and books claiming that Mary Magdelane was in fact Jesus's wife and that they had a child could well be offensive to Christians!? Well... they're extremely offensive and the height of blasphemy in fact. But no one bats an eyelid at this!? If someone had said that a certain religion's principal figure was married to a prostitute then I think the reaction would be alot more than, that caused by a few cartoons!
Muslims are not the only angry ones the British people are also angry, not at muslims but at the government for this stupid mess that is pc.
As I previously stated it is not that Ann Summers named it to deliberately offend, fo clearly they did not. It is the refusal to apologise when informed of their giving offense that annoys me. It just seems irresponsible and antagonistic.

The new male doll is being sold as an "inflatable escort for your hen-night adventures", the Independent reported.
Unfortunately, Mustafa is a name given to the Prophet Mohammed.

I wonder if the "blow up" doll had anything to do with the bomberhead toon? An odd similarity there. Something about boomskis me thinketh.
I like Dev Daves idea. Religious sex toys. You could have Jesus "Fabio" Christ: "All the power of God- For your first time... and his!"

Thay should NOT have to apologise. It's a pun on words, and has been used for many, many years.
Dildoes called Big Dick fail to get screams of rage from everyone called Richard.
Again, I'll reiterate: this country is Britain. We live under British laws and not an Islamic theocracy. If they don't like it they can boycott the shop... anyway, how the hell did they find out about the dolls in the first place? :inquisitive:
I refuse to condone actions that mean that every item needs to be checked against items of every conceivable religion in case some slight offence is caused.

Anyway, here is something else: the letter from the mosque said Mustafa hurts the feelings of 'Muslim men, women and children'.
Children...
Did the pervs show Mustafa to their kids?
