Being English I drink gallons of the stuff. I love it. Then I came across this article.


US court backs hallucinogenic tea

A small US congregation can use hallucinogenic tea as part of its rituals to connect with God, the Supreme Court has ruled.The unanimous decision is court's first religious freedom case since Chief Justice John Roberts was appointed.

The hoasca tea is considered sacred to members of the group, O Centro Espirita Beneficente Uniao do Vegetal.

Now this is what I call a religion,promoting two of my favourite pastimes, drinking tea and tripping ~D

Other religions have tried to get drugs legalized for them, arguing on grounds that it is freedom of religion or freedom to practice religion. The important bit in this decision is that SCOTUS accepted the claim that it was necessary for them to practice their religion, rather than just some traditional aspect.

Never heard of the drug though, and I'm surprised the government has scheduled it, since they've forgotten to schedule so many others.
