Has anyone thinked about using "foreign" units after conquering city or the whole faction? Or alteast absorbing the good points or training of some unique units?

I think that's sort of suppliment by the mercenaries but I get what you're saying. It'd be nice to recruit local units at normal costs. I don't know much besides the crusades but the Turcopoles spring to mind and in the old MTW they were to rare to find as mercs.

That`s a really good idea. I guess they will do this, but not in every province.

I think this was possible in MTW for certain units. gallowglasses and kerns in Ireland, woodsmen in the north east and jinettes in Spain and Aragon.

Perhaps make it only possible for units where there is evidence of the conquerors using units of the conquered.

Alexander filling his army with Persians comes to mind.

i think this should be included but make it only for unique units for that faction and limit the amount u can train of another factions units

if you look at EB's system for recruiting and their government system, I think thats what you're hinting at
In EB you need to build your barracks up to a certain level and whatever level of government you choose effects how many of your own national units you can create, and how many local units you can create
it never allows you to create all the local units though... which I find more realistic

I think you should able to be able to create everything except the "Royal" type units and only your own generic units.

So you'll never get longbows in Africa but if you conquer in England you can produce as many as you want.

Ex: Denmark, you can produce spearmen, maybe even Huscarls, but not Danish nobles.

Actually it would be an interesting dynamic if you could produce "region specific" troops and royals (it is not like royalty disappears) but the main factor would be loyalty if you make and use these troops.

Would they remain loyal....?
Would they suddenly turn on your army mid-battle while you are fighting other troops/army of the same culture?
Can you trust that a royal army you have left in the city with some peasants will not rebel and attack the city and take it over.

You would have to buy their loyalty or keep them under a very strong general.

Oh the new dynamics.........

The concept of using units from a conquered province has been raised a few times. I have been saying the same for quite some time. It is more than realistic to expect a conquerer to utilise specialist local units in his army
