Well I know I might be a lil' to old for reading commic books but I just love asterix and obelix. I think I almost have all of them. Am I the only geek who reads those or does everybody reads them (secretly perhaps?)
So for one of the other die hard fans: wich albums did ypu like most? Wich is you're favourite charactar and why do you like the commics so much?

Nonsense! What has age to do with comic books?
The comic book is a medium like TV or any other. What kind of stories you tell with them is completely up to the author. Every Genre is possible.
I have a few thousand comic books at home. Some of them I'd give to kids but most of them not because their stories are more mature.
Warren Ellis, Grant Morrison, Frank Miller, Moebius, Alan Moore isn't exactly what
one understand as comic books, as in funny but rather graphic novels.
Don't let anybody tell you otherwise and take away the fun of reading comics or, even worse, feel ashamed for it.
That being said, I love Asterix & Obelix, have read and own every one of them.
My favourite story is the first, Asterix the Gaul, where the Romans capture the Druid and he plays tricks on them by brewing any potion but not the real magic potion they want to have. Consequences are long beards etc. :laugh4:

yeah the first one's story is one of the better ones. But I read it more to have the laughs. And I really find the one with the Nors, the one they join the Roman army, asterix in Belgica and the one they become gladiotors are the best i think.

I'm very fond of Asterix too.
My favourite is still 'Asterix and the Britons'. I love the way the Romans defeated the Britons by fighting only at tea-time and the weekends (boundahs!). My favourite scene is when the chap who has tended his lawn for so many years ("another two thousand years and that'll be a decent bit of turf") gets it ruined by successive chases across the grass until he finally flips - "my pilum is harder than your sternum" - reminds me of Latin class :laugh4:

I've seen it, as I am in french class, but it's hard to come by in the states. Though I haven't tried very hard...

I'm in the same boat. A friend of my mom's gave us the books years ago but they were all in French. Thankfully the illustrations are well enough done that I could still understand the story. I love how the Romans are portrayed as a bunch of scrawy wimps, wonder how they go over in central Italy.
yeah, stuff is lost in the translation but I still find them the best commic books I know.

One part even found themself into my sig. What's Ret-Orik known as in English BTW (it's from Asterrix and the Goths)?

I LOVE Asterix. I used to find them aplenty at my local library when I was younger, it was really fun to read. Better than TV which was quite exciting at the time. It is the only comic I would still read today.
I would love to see Asterix and Obelix in Bartix. :laugh4:

The quote is from the last page were its a short summary of the early stages of the civil war.

On the last page they are home again. However on the third but last
there's the summary you're talking about. But my characters are called Choleric, Elektric and Satirik.

yeah I know the story. And yes the summary isn't on the last page. And don't start talking about the dutch names of the characters. For some reason they decided a few years ago to change the names of a lot of characters. Wich doesn't make it easy. I still use the old names tough.
And yeah Asterix and the vikings is one of the best commics too.
the joke about the echo or when that one viking is on the look to find somebody who's scared and ofcourse the gnew legionair who has to disarm an unarmed gaul...

That was one of the most horrible translation decisions ever! Only to make it more available to kids, I think. Ugh. Luckily I still own all of them in the old translations. The last few ones aren't really good anyway (especially the very last one, with the extraterrestrials (!)), but you've hust got the love the older ones. One of my favourites (in translation, that is), is still Asterix and the Britons; the rendering of the highly-stereotypical British language is brilliant! :laugh4: "ik vraag u pardon" ~D
yeah but the problem is I don't have them all. And I want them all but I don't want those with kakkafonix and Heroïs . How is that so much easier that assurancetourrix abraracourrix? Okay maybe they are a lil easier. But still they'r absolutly not hard to pronounce or remember. I remember about all of the name even ozewiezwozewiezewallakristallix. perhaps the spelling might be a'lil of though.
