ROME — An Italian parliamentary commission concluded "beyond any reasonable doubt" that the Soviet Union was behind the 1981 attempt to kill Pope John Paul II — a theory long alleged but never proved, according to a draft report made available Thursday.

It is not suprising that a communist state would attempt to kill the Pope, but I found this news worthy.

The Soviets missed their chance to take the opposition "all the way out"

Johannes Paulus Magnus didn't.

If only the Vatican had control of Nuclear Weapons, Russia was still Communist, and I was the Pope...

Muwhaha.

In our Cherry-blossom existence, your continuing commitment to the "nuclear glaze" is a reassuring touchstone of consistency.

An Eye, for an Eye....

Tom Clancy said this, he even wrote a book about it, one of his better ones.

At any rate the Russians missed, JPG won.

"Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" (also known as the Lex Talionis) principle) actually just means making the punishement fit the crime. "Let his eye be put out who takes the eye of another" and so on. You know, proportionality.

For example, not starting a nuclear war that kills millions over a single assasination...

Funny how there's a commission dealing with this now when Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is up for re-election soon. :inquisitive:

Why?

The Italian report said Soviet military intelligence — and not the KGB — was responsible.

Try reading the article, before you blame someone.

The KGB still rocks :2thumbsup:

If they killed the pope, then the west should've stolen the body of Lenin and turned him into a giant marianette to dance for the crowds at Mardi Gras.
