Thoughts on this film? I just really liked the beginning of it.

i thought it was ok. better than average. not much else to say, I guess - I'd take "Das Boot" or "Stalingrad" over it any day of the week.

I just liked the "calm before the storm", when Vasili was riding on the train to Stalingrad.

i thought the accents were hilarious. and casting Bob Hoskins as Kruschev...genius.
not a bad film though. Ed Harris is usually very believable.

Pretty decent movie. Especially the starting scene was spectacular, and Rachel (forgot last name) is a beauty of course. Still, I felt it was lacking something, the characters were a bit bland.

I liked it. I wonder how many movies America has made about World War II that don't have any American characters in them? In that sense I think it's a very good move recognizing that the war wasn't won in just Normandy.

I think it was a British film with Hollywood backing or something like that.

Could very well be; I haven't really looked into it. That'd make the broader worldview a little less surprising, but still a good thing I think.

Failrly certain it was British, given the number of Brit actors.

Good film but I'd take Das Boot, the series over anything else.

I have physics related problem with this film:
If you are jumping, you follow parabolic like path in air.:book:
If you are then shot by bullet coming near perpendicular to plane of that parabolic path, effect will be adding component of velocity in direction of bullet while forward speed is not changed.:juggle2:

In film instead, you stop mid air and drop straight down like sack of cabbage.

Beginning is really good but then movie is getting worse and worse.
There is some big historical bugs. Germans don't do almost anything to civilians. Russian soldiers don't drink vodka or "spiryt" (96% alcohol). And I would forgot - they should fight mostly into winter.

Decent movie, although the entire premise is inaccurate. The book the film is based upon, War of the Rats, or something like that, was based on what turned out to be Russian propaganda.

it was fun. the production was very good (i.e. art/set design, etc).

I liked it. Some of the “drama” BS could have been left out but the action and sets and such were great.
