View Full Version : Can walls be made to be destructable?

I've done some searching here and can't seem to find this question asked before. I'd like for steppe factions to be able to destroy walls (as a human player only of course - since the AI can't destroy buildings totally), and so I was wondering if it would be possible to do this.

I would suspect the answer is no, as there is no 'hinterland' preceeding the names in edb, but I just wanted to ask.

edit: Crap. I thought I might have got around it:

I made a new level in EDB.txt as an alternate upgrade for a single steppe faction. All the level did though was allow a diplomat to be recruitable. It did not have any wall upgrade or anything like that. But when I built the structure, the previous wall was still there. I thought maybe it would have disappeared. But the old one still was present. Hmm. Oh well. Try again...

edit2: Well, even if you add negative bonuses to cancel out the walls you put up in the first level, the walls are still there. No use in pursuing that possible way of getting around this. Guess those steppe guys will just have to get used to living in towns.

It's pretty stupid that walls can't be torn down in this game though. pffft.

I believe the indestructability is tied to the building tree name - and in the case of defenses that name cannot be changed as the game will not run.

Your idea is interesting though!

Teleklos, perhaps you could make steppe provinces charge ridiculous amounts of money for the first initial wall level, so that they'd rarely be built? And besides, the next expansion is around the corner, we'll see what they bring.

Have you tried eadingas' guide on how to make battlemap buildings flammable, with the (estimated) result being that they collapse? Here's the guide:

How to make buildings flammable on the battlemap (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=51382)

Not sure of the results though as I haven't tested this myself. Also one of the replies states that certain cultures' buildings won't burn regardless. Make a backup and give it a go though, I'd be interested to hear some results on this topic.

I thought that that did not affect destructability - even if a wall is "destroyed" 100% on the battlemap or through revolts it still exists as far as the game is concerned (?)

This is what I'm wondering, once the walls have supposedly been destroyed on the battlefield, when returning to the campaign map would they be displayed as damage 100% - this building has been completed destroyed? ~ Then I'd guess that you would only be able to repair the walls.

I'm not sure myself as I haven't tested this out, and there's scarcely any test results in the guide itself, which would've been interesting to read before trying it out.

I'll see if I can get a scripter to give me something that will do this - and see what the results are. I'll post here if I get anything worth mentioning.

I was able to get LorDBulA to test it and even though the walls were 100% destroyed (by a script) on the campaign map icon for the walls, on the battle map they still were there. Oh well. That's all she wrote I suspect.
