Recently, for the first time in my life I went to Paris.
Should shame myself as an European it took so long.

Anyhow, great city, very good food and enormously friendly people.
It is however getting literally swamped by Americans and Chinese.
Not that that bothers me of course.

Now what I want to know:

*Is their any option to eat a descent meal at a descent prise?
*Where can you go (in the evening) to get a drink with the fellow youngsters?
*And how do you order a normal drinkable coffee?:inquisitive:

Well, the first thing you need to understand is that Paris is bigger than Belgium. Secondly, if you spot a lot of Americans and Chinese, you know you aren't going to find anything vaguely resembling decent prices nearby. Just take a métro anywhere a little out of the centre and you should be okay.

There are 10.000 restaurants in Paris, there should be something of you're liking somewhere close to where you are staying - ask a local, anybody who looks like they would eat or club or drink coffee in a place that you'd enjoy.


Else, take métro 2 to station 'Ménilmontant', and try rue Oberkampf ou rue Ménilmontant. In the XIe and XXe arrondissements. You'll find what you're looking for.

But don't tell the Americans. :furious3: Unless they're smoking hot... :kiss2: :wink3:

Well, a Belgian can virtually pass themselves off as French (providing they're not the Flemish sort), but try getting a friendly reaction if you are English in Paris. Virtually impossible.
The rest of France, however, is a different matter. I have met many delightfully helpful, charming and friendly French people out of the capital. Even the Parisians seem to lighten up when they're away from the big city.

yeah paris is one *** of a city. I've found a student bar once where the food was quite good but most importantly not at all expensive. If I only could remember where. If you don't want to pay a lot you've got to go a few streets away from the places where the tourists are packed together there you sometimes find places where it's less expensive and still good. But whatever you do always get your drinks at the bar. In a lot of bars they ask you more money if you sit at a table or outside and the waitor has to bring it to you. So always go get it yourself at the bar and a lot will automatically be less expensive.
About the coffee. Who driks coffee anyway. Nah I just don't like coffee so I can't tell wich one is drinkable or not.

Btw: have you noticed that in the camps d'Elysee where evrything is quite expensive the Mc Donalds is cheaper then anywhere else in town. (except fo La défense)

My girlfriend and I where strolling down camps d'Elysee minding our own business,
When suddenly 2 Chinese women asked us if we knew the Louis Vitton store

My girlfriend (logically) new immediately what store they where talking about.
Very expensive and elite she says.

So the Chinese women wanted to buy 2 handbags in that particular shop.
But apparently they weren’t allowed to buy those handbags.
So they asked us if we could buy it for them, and then shoved over more then 1600 euros in our hands (almost my monthly salary).
“We trust you, you two nice people we see” they said.
I swear.
So we went in the shop bought them 2 real ugly purses.
And not ugly like yee that’s ugly, but more of; why the hell would anyone want to give 1600 euros for these two things?
It looked like one of those was going to bite me.

So that’s my unbelievable erotic adventure of camps d'Elysee.

I know the story is missing its oompfh.
But try to imagine 2 totally strange women giving you all that money.


Strange people those Chinese.

ps: We're Flemish but succeeded in passing as Frenchies.
Until I opened my mouth that is.

I remember waiting for the red double decker bus at the Arc de Triomphe and watching these chinese tourists running into the middle of the zebra crossing taking pictures of themselves infront of the arc. This went on for ages with them dodging traffic (And around there the driving is wild) trying to get the perfect photo. Some would go to the pavement and decide the picture wasn't good enough and run back across. That was entertaining. :laugh4:

Hopefully, this summer, after the exams I'll visit Paris, but I'm not sure yet. It could be Rome, too, becuse it's closer and cheaper for me. And I like Rome Total War (or Realism, to be exact):)
