View Full Version : CTD ALERT - Siege CTD fix here. (0.73 temporarily taken down)

Attacking any city with city walls will cause a CTD. Textures for city walls' banners were installed to an incorrect file. Here is one way to fix this pretty easily.

1. Open up this folder: Program Files/Activision/Rome - Total War/Data/models_buildings/textures
2. There should be about 19 exactly 20 texture files in there, and nothing else.
3. Just highlight them all, and hit 'copy'
4. Then step back two folders (into the Data folder) and this time open up models_building/textures.
5. Paste those textures you copied into this file.

That's it.

Sincerest apologies. I submitted files with an incorrect tree at the last minute, and my build (which had the right file tree) wasn't showing an error when I was testing it. People who tested the installer patch didn't happen to attack a city with city walls and didn't notice it.

----------------------------------
This should remedy the situation. I'm downloading the installer now and copying my build over to try it all out, but I'm pretty sure this is the problem as the submission I made had an extra 's' in a tree that shouldn't be there. I'll update this if there are other steps or is anything else that should be changed.

edit: It has been confirmed that this fixes the problem. The method Kull mentions below is also effective and essentially the same thing.

Alternatively, you can use drag & drop:

MOVE the textures folder from the data/models_buildings folder to the data/models_building folder.

NOTE: This fix is totally compatible with your ongoing v.73 games.

Don't worry. 20 is the correct number. Dave was understandably in a hurry to post.

Oh, and the files are already in the textures folder. I didn't use the torrent download for the patch, BTW.

There is no textures map in models_building so I just moved the textures map from models_buildings. I assume I can delete the latter map without consequences?

Good Job on the fix.

Just to be sure everyone knows what we are doing here:

1) It doesn't matter which download service you use, all the patch installer files have the same problem.

2) The problem is that when you run the installer, it creates a folder THAT SHOULD NOT EXIST. That folder is named data/models_buildings, and it contains a single folder called textures.

3) There is another folder right next to it called data/models_building. That is where we SHOULD have placed the textures folder.

4) To fix the bug, drag the textures folder from data/models_buildings to data/models_building.

Our sincerest apologies, this is an issue that our whole team is at fault for not catching, and we are hard at work in creating a hotfix to solve this.

We will be adding some last-minute fixes to unit recruitment as well, so this hotfix will make saved games incompatible. We estimate that it will be ready in three hours, so don't get too attached to your saved games until then.

Until then 0.73 is being taken down, and 0.73a will be up in its place as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience.

Great news. This will work being installed over the original 0.73 patch though right? No need to uninstall that or anything?

The hotfix, yes. 0.73a you should not install if you have 0.73.

Haha, I'm not even gone for a whole day and stuff flies out of nowhere, at least it was caught quickly. Such excitement!

Hm... but isn't the hotfix for 0.73? Eh, I'll see the instructions when it's posted. I suppose I'll have to uninstall 0.73 then install 0.73a?

No, there will be two downloads:

The installer-wrapped version of EB, called 0.7.3a. This will replace 0.7.3. There will also be a 0.7.3 hotfix, for those who downloaded it, to turn it into 0.7.3a. This will be about 1.5MB. It will not have an installer.

If you want the benefits of the installer, which are many, as you know, you'll have to redownload the file. If you just want to fix your game and not worry about the uninstall and such, you can use the hotfix manually.

As for the release of this new new patch, do you think it will be today/tonight?

Yes, it is being tested now. At least, I hope it is. I uploaded it to our internal server and asked for testing.
