Just started with STW. Wow! I'm glad to find a game to replace Broderbund's Art of War (very old, I think it was for the IBM PCjr!). For all the strategy games I've played, I've never had to manage such large armies real time!

Yeah we know. It's the greatest game ever. That's why we post here. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

I think that the Art of War (I played it on the original Macintosh back in '81) was probably the FIRST Real-Time Strategy/tactical game out there. Predated Dune II which is what most people consider to be "first."

But it's remarkably the same - A couple different unit types, armies running around on a big map, and when they meet, you zoom into the Battle Simulator, where terrain gives you advantages.... the best ideas are always stolen! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Sounds about right, but STW is on a much larger scale (as are the computers). I didn't expect much when I bought it, but I was sooo tired of chopping wood in Age of Empires II. I am pleasantly surprised with STW...and I think I'm dreaming in Japanese now.
