Greetings Europa Barbarorum fans!

The EB team has been working diligently to resolve the Stone Wall Banners CTD, and we are happy to announce the result: A new EB v.73a install for those upgrading from v.72 and a much smaller Hotfix for those who have already installed EB v.73. As a reward for your patience, we added a few additional improvements to the Hotfix/v.73a:

- Adjusted wall, tavern, theater, and health building entries and descriptions
- Adjusted fleet recruitment and descriptions
- Adjusted some units' recruitment

So without further ado, here are the installation links and instructions for each file:

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Full Patch: EB Version 0.73a is a full patch (67MB), and should be installed on top of EB v.72. Version 0.72, as you know, needs to be installed on a clean, working version of RTW with the 1.2 patch installed, and with no other mods installed.

2) Hotfix: The EB v.73 Hotfix (1.5MB) solves the "Stone Wall Banners" CTD and also incorporates a number of late improvements to the recruitment system. The hotfix can ONLY be installed on top of an EB v.73 installation! It is a zip file, so you'll have to ensure it is unzipped in the same directory where you installed v.73. (Note: If you don't get a file overwrite warning, you aren't unzipping them into the correct directory.)

If you downloaded 0.7.3, all you would need to do, as per the instructions we have tried our very best to make clear, is to install the hotfix.

Were any of my instructions unclear on this point?

Is the "hotfix" for correcting the "buildings-"folder mistake? If not please specify. Thx.

It does correct that, but it also corrects a few of the bigger unit recruitment problems too. So actually, if someone got a download before the fix, and then they corrected the fix manually, as we explained, they could continue on with their campaign if they have gotten a good start on it. They'd just have to be aware there could be better recruitment in some places with the patch. But we aren't mandating that people get the hotfix immediately if the fixed the wall banner problem themselves and are having a good campaign going.

Dear Guys,

I have been running 7.3 with no problems and have just unzipped the hotfix which overwrote the files as expected. I notice that the version number hasn't changed from 7.3b to 7.3a in the opening page. Is this correct? This is on one machine.

On another I downloaded 7.3a onto 7.2 but the game seems to have run amok. The sea is lapping at a fantastic rate and the little waggons on the roads are moving like formula 1 cars and the line around picked towns is flashing like a crossing light. This only lasted 4 end turns and then CTD.

Are you having any similar reports? The machine in question is dual core, SLI, and dual graphics would this play any significant role in the antics?

I'm just guessing but that might be the "High Priority" shortcut. Try launching RTW from the start menu or by doubleclicking the "RomeTW.exe" in your EB folder.

Dear Kull,

At first I thought you were kidding me on about a " high priority " shortcut. I have never heard this before so can I ask, " what is a high priority shortcut?"

As I had 7.2 patched and running well as 7.3 I downloaded the hotfix and the game still appears to run OK, only the version title hasn't changed. The Zip file extracted OK as I was asked if I wanted to overwrite the files. The game as I said works so far without any problems.

On our other machine it had 7.2, so I installed 7.3a with the hotfix incorporated and on playing the results were chaotic as explained in first post. After four end game turns it CTD and I wondered if it was a fault perhaps in the all inclusive 7.3a as on the other machine these installations were done seperately?

Basics, I can answer part of your post. The high priority shorcut is an option with the .73a installer. You can set programs different priorities using the task manager when running them. This option automatically makes RTW a high priority operation, unfortunately, there are some stability issues that people have had (and is warned about in the installer).

Greetings Guys,
Where to post reports of CTD's and errors for .73a?

As LE points out, the new short cut is part of the install - rerun the install program and you'll see there are 4 check box options, one of which is for the special shortcut. But please......trust me. Try starting a game by doubleclicking the "RomeTW.exe" directly. Do NOT use the shortcut. If that doesn't fix the problem, then just report this in the Bugs forum. And please list the system specs of each machine in case others begin to report the same issue.

Dear Guys,
I can now say that I have all working with no problems so far on both machines. After much frustration on our bigger unit I re-installed EB and played for some time. Then I installed the patch 7.3 and played it for some time. Finally just about 241BC I installed the hotfix and to my surprise, no crashes and so far no problems. This was how I did it on the first machine with no problems so perhaps installing seperately might just work for others as well.

Heya, I have a slight problem. I installed the hotfix because I am currently on 0.7.3 beta, but when I load up the game it tells me that it can't find the skeleton fs_pilum. Apparently because the .7.3beta roman legionnaires use fs_javelinman. What is to be done?

Dear All,

As Rome I have reaches 191 BC and apart from lack of recruits, even with barracks in place, the game is otherwise working fine and no CTD's to report.

Reached 188 BC and had my first crash at end turn. Went back in through autosave, moved a few units around the towns and pressed end turn and all appears well again. Have now reached 184 BC.

We are preparing a patch that will restore the old animations, at least until we can solve all these battle CTDs. Hang in there!

Does it fix the Latin voices for Romans?

No. The Romans are part of the Greek Culture, so there's no Latin voices for now. When we make the port to 1.5, Rome will have its own culture and those dulcet Latin tones will carress your ears once more.

You have no idea how encouraging it is to hear from folks who are having a good, relatively CTD experience with EB!

Dear All,

Still as Rome I reached 172 BC and had another ( two in total ) end-turn CTD. Went back in via " continue campaign " withdrew the barracks I had set then changed a few units around and pressed end turn. Once more no problems and I have now reached 167 BC and fighting against Gauls, Germans and Macedonians. Please note that I have not interferred with any files that were in the downloads.

By the way this machine is an 570/770 E Machine, some 4 years old, 2 Ghz, 768 RAM and 9600 ATI Graphics.

Basics, thanks for your error report! Please do go ahead and post such reports in the technical support area (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=127) so that we have one place to read about them and respond to them.

Thank you!

Dear Khelvan,

It wasn't an error report rather an update on progress showing that despite CTD's some can be worked around to let the game continue. If you feel that is not needed then I will of course cease.
