During the weekend of March 24 to March 26, there will be a Beta Event for the upcoming Guild Wars Factions, the sequel to the succesful online-RPG Guild Wars.
During the event, participants will be able to play the new characters in the new PvM area, the continent of Cantha.
Everyone who owns a Guild Wars account or who has pre-ordered Factions can take part. But if you have neither and still want to try it out, all you need is an Invitation to the Beta Event. Every Guild Wars player has three Invitation to give. Currently, I still have all three and I'm willing to give them away. So, if anyone who reads this, is interested to take part in the Event, he or she might let me know some way or another and he or she might eventually get an Invitation from me. No costs are involved, but your addiction might force you to buy Factions later!

This was in another thread, but better to answer it here since this one's closer to the topic. :book:
Initial GW cost is really high though.. and once you get level 20 all you can do is play PvP.
Not quite true. Over a third (some say half, but I guess it's debatable) of GW PvE content is for Ascended (level 20) characters. Leveling stops at 20, and you can also get statistically "perfect" equipment around ascension, but character development continues in the form of skills to be acquired and *gasp* getting better at playing said character.
According to Arenanet, up to 80% of GW:Factions content is for level 20 characters, and Factions is supposed to have even more content than Prophecies (the first GW chapter.) It may sound a bit controversial to players who are accustomed to level grinding and collecting equipment, but for those who would rather outwit and outplay opponents instead of having an advantage in "level" and "gear", Factions will be a good title to pick up.
BTW, I have more preview access keys to dole out if Saturnus and Snowhobbit run out... ~D

So does anyone else play on the American server?

I'm on Europe, though it doesn't matter all that much - there's always International. My guild is technically American, even though most are from Serbia and UK.
Would be fun to meet some fellow orgers during the beta weekend. :2thumbsup: I'm pretty sure that all of the Factions preview content is accessible from the International zone, so we could meet there.

I'm REALLY glad they did the invitations thing this time. No more WoW noobs shouting NOOBS at people randomly, hopefully.

Is there a way to change the movement keys to a more fps set-up ?

Yup, Options -> Control Setup. You can also customise the interface if you don't like the default one.
The preview is lacking in tutorials, but you can create a PvP char (just pick a template) and run around the Isle of the Nameless (Next to Great Temple of Balthazar) to get some instruction about combat basics.
