View Full Version : I would like to suggest something about the arcade...

I've noticed that Tosa is our Arcade manager, but he's hardly ever on, and we've got messed up games and messed up scores on our hands (I'm not dissin' ya Tosa, I just think you need some help). So, I would like to suggest that we vote in another Arcade Manager. I personally believe that I would be able to do this job very well since I have my own RPG site currently that is flourishing, and I run everything that happens there.

I hope I can get some positive feedback from some people so I don't look like a nobody trying to be somebody...

Thanks

The arcade could use a breath of fresh life it's true.

It's possible that arcade manager is somehow linked to administrator though...

Maybe we can work something out, I hope I can get some Moderators and Administrators to take a look at this thread.

So, does anyone know if I could possibly be the new manager guy?

TosaInu seems to be around quite often, although it's difficult to tell though as he doesn't display his online status.

Anyhow, I suppose the Arcade could do with dedicated overseer, perhaps even a Tournament or two. It's lonely being the only Tournament winner (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/arcade.php?&act=Arcade&do=viewtourney&tid=1)!

I'm sure Tosa and the Staff will give your offer due consideration ZainDustin.

As far as I know that is true, sadly enough.

Edit: I overlooked/forgot something. There's such a thing as an arcade moderator(s).
Who will do it/what?

However, the thought that members other than the forum administrator run certain events, at least the day to day administration, hit home. Since arcade is still developed, there's hope it will have such an option one day.

The issue with false scores has been reported to the author a few times. No response yet as far as I know. It may be a hard to solve problem, as the arcade system is not just using PHP, but also less foolproof components.

Todays fix will be this: turn off all games but one. And build a tournament around that and swap it with another game after say a week. No hard guarantees thought that it will be rocksolid.

I'm not dissin' ya Tosa

That's not worrying me. I'm uneasy about the lack of a gamemaster and about the system not being solid.

The latest version is installed now. Might improve.

What can the Arcade Moderator do? I may want to take that job.

Any idea how the leaderboard scores are calculated now? Some people gained a couple hundred points.

It also appears to be laggy.

TosaInu
03-09-2006, 15:23
The same as before, but and you may have noticed already, that score is bugged. The first who plays a certain game is leader. So it has to be recalculated 'manually'. From what I understand, this doesn't have to be done daily.

It was never done before, so there are quite a few people who didn't receive the points they earned, rather not being listed correctly.

It may be a good thing if it's 'laggy' now: means it's actually doing something.

There are different permissions for the moderator, recalling from head:
-edit scores (delete error scores).
-edit comments.
-organise tourneys.

I'll post a list.

TosaInu

Hmm, you mean the entire arcade is laggy? Or just that leaderboard? Very laggy or just slower than before?

The next release is supposed to fix this false score bug.

Just the leaderboard. I would play a game and improve my score but it would stay the same, while other peoples scores would jump 10 points even though they weren't there. Now my score has gone up though.

I'm fairly certain you used to get 10 points for a first place position, now it seems you get 30. Still doesn't explain the scores though.

TosaInu
03-09-2006, 20:29
The scores are still the same (as far as I can see in admin):
10 for 1st, 9 for 2nd and so on.

I think member support is more an issue. Say 20 people from the top 50 leaderboard say yes and no more than 10 say no? Is that fair?

Zain
03-11-2006, 17:02
Sure, sounds fair. How do you arrange that?

one thing I noticed about the arcade, some games are not fair. This is due to computer speed...

When I had my old computer, I got a highscore at astroids2000, which was 5 times the highscore of the number two. in some alien game I also totally crashed the number two score. The copmuter was 8 years old and very slow. the games also ran slow, so I had 'more time to fire and move'

I'm sorry to say, but I think Zaindustin has quite a slow computer as well. That score on astroids2000 is just totally impossible on a fast one.
Also, Tiberius scored 10.000+ points on click santa sometime. play the game once, and you know that is impossible. I achieved a score of 118 after hours of playing. it was nearly impossible gettin any further, because the santa moved faster and faster. 10.000+ is just not possible. on my computer, you wouldn't even see the santa, just a red flash and game over.

I doubt there is anything to do about this.. because if so it would've already be done. so this post is quite useless... bleh spam

10,000+ is most likely just a bug. One thing we could do is remove the games that don't adjust speed for your computers speed.

Oh, and "yes" to ZainDustin. That's 3 so far.

Zain
03-12-2006, 01:51
Tiberius PM'd me and told me to remove it as soon as I get the job. So, can that be 4 to Yes?

Also, Is the voting gonna be done on this thread, or done more professionally?

A vote by someone who doesn't play arcade makes little sense?

Zain
03-14-2006, 03:46
Your question didn't really compute with me. Are you saying that it makes little sense, or not?

-ZainDustin

TosaInu
03-14-2006, 14:24
Anything I say is hard to compute, don't worry.

I say a vote is good and is the way to do this. I also say that the vote should be casted by those who actually use the arcade (and there should be a number of votes). If I didn't play it, I wouldn't care who could access the scores.

therother
03-14-2006, 16:05
The problem with a vote, unless I've missed something, is that there is currently only one candidate. Unless someone else wants to volunteer, there seems little point in having a vote.

As for who should be given a vote if we need one, I'd say anyone who is interested. That may well strongly correlate with those who have previously played games in the Arcade, but I think other Members shouldn't be excluded if they take an interest.

On a separate point, if there is to be an expanded use of the Arcade, perhaps we should have an Arcade (sub)forum to coordinate things?

Zain
03-14-2006, 22:53
I am going to set up a poll asking this, and I'd like it if Tosa would announce this so it's more public. I think it's pretty important.

And yes, Therother, I do want to do this. I'll make the Arcade more exciting, with Tournaments and stuff happening quite often.

Tosa, could you announce this for me?

I'll make the poll.

oh yeah bugs... a few of the weird scores will be bugs. lol - I remember I never got a high score in space invaders because I just exploded after a little while, while I was not hit, and had 6 lives or so left.... grrrr

anyway, sorry if the last post sounded accusing.
