This is intriguing! There's a family in Turkey that walk around on all fours all the time and have trouble standing up straight!

The Kurdish siblings, aged between 18 and 34 and from the rural south, 'bear crawl' on their feet and palms.
Study of the five has shown the astonishing behaviour is not a hoax and they are largely unable to walk otherwise.

Their mother and father, who are closely related
I think that may explain something.
Heh, this will fuel the "rural folks" jokes.

Weird :gah:
Maybe this family should move to South Dakota...

I found it funny and I think Left Eye would find it objectionable that Kurds are being called Turks. :laugh4:

I've read about this, very interesting.

The five are all mentally retarded. Their mother and father, who are closely related are believed to have handed down a unique combination of genes which result in the behaviour.
As noted by ShadesPanther... these guys are inbred... so that kind of makes them like royalty. :laugh4:
And this is why marrying someone related to yourself is not a good idea...

I think genetically if you have children with your sister for instance (which is probable with the wording in this article) IIRC you are 50% more likely to have some kind of genetic disease.

Habsburg genetic defects (http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1539232):
Soon, genetic defects began to appear, and multiply, in some branches of the Habsburg family tree. Among the common defects was mandibular prognathism syndrome, or the Habsburg Lip. It caused the lower mandible to be especially prominent, and the lower lip to be grossly enlarged. The most famous case is Charles II, last of the Spanish Habsburg line. His jaw was so disfigured that he could not chew his food. In addition, he was mentally retarded and impotent.
Nowadays, the Habsburg Lip is a topic of much interest to geneticists, as it supports various theories about inheritance and interbreeding. The trait has been traced through thirty-four generations of the family, surfacing at various points. Worryingly, there appears to be certain connections between the Battenburgs, a.k.a. the British Royal Family, and the Habsburgs, as well as various other monarchies throughout Europe. Maybe there's a reason Prince Charles, future King George VII, has such `striking' features...
Also of interest:
Ban Asian marriages of cousins, says MP. (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2005/11/16/ncous16.xml&sSheet=/news/2005/11/16/ixhome.html) Although he seems blissfully unaware of the dangers of making a family of inbreds head of state.

Oh yes, I've heard about the news. As it is already obvious and mentioned by fellows, they have genetic defects caused by being inbred.
I found it funny and I think Left Eye would find it objectionable that Kurds are being called Turks.
And Vladimir, my personal point of view concerns myself indeed. What ******* kind of thought I have towards the related ethnic community, it is crap of mine. And as stated before by the moderators, this is not the place to talk about it that way. Would you please avoid Kurd jokes on me in future time ?

Well inbreeding is just wrong. I thought marrying closer than second cousin here was wrong anyway, I guess the registry office just looks the wrong way when you tick the "Muslim" and "ethnic minority" boxes on the form.
North-Western Europeans have always understood this was a bad idea, there is even a refernce to it in the Norse Sagas. Odin specifically forbade the marriage of first cousins.
Unless you name is preceded by Duke, Prince, King, or Emperor. Then you have to marry a first cousin.

You can do whatever you want when you have a big horse and a sword. It doesn't have to be sensible, e.g. WW1.
