(as per tech sticky, posting here first)

Win2K, Service Pack 4
Ati Radeon 9600XT
1 GB DDRRam
SoundBlaster sound card (it's pretty old!)
drivers are relatively up to date (ie, within 4 months)

RTW patched 1.3. Modded file to play as all playable factions. Playing as Germanic.

I've scoured the search, seen similar problems, but they were posted years ago...

...when I try to load any saved games, the whole game crashes to desktop when the load (red bar) is finished. There is no error message or anything.

I only had 8 saves, deleted all but 3, only 1 will load, but it crashes soon after the map appears. The other two won't load at all, crashing to desktop.

The patch readme says it fixes this problem. Though on the RTW splash screen, I don't see "ver 1.3" anywhere, so I'm only assuming it's actually patched.

I've uninstalled, then reinstalled the game, but no change. On one search, someone advised reinstalling (after a reformat) your entire OS. That aint happening.

I would appreaciate any help.

Older crash...

Hey, thanks. Been lurking for many months (playing MTW).

Anyhow, I think the patch was installed... I've since reinstalled everything, though I'm almost afraid to start another campaign 'just to see,' incase the same thing happens again... (after reinstalling, I re-copied the old saves, the same crash kept occuring)

I have a dual-boot system (both 2K), one partition 'gaming' for games, the other 'filmmaking,' for short films, videography, etc. I put all my games on the gaming system. However, some games (MOH:Pacific, Doom) and RTW won't play with emulation/clone cd running... but I never know this until I already install into the 'gaming' OS and try to play the game.

So...

I booted into the 'filmmaking' OS, then installed RTW there... HOWEVER, I re-installed into the pre-existing RTW folder in the 'gaming' OS (it has much more disk space, and also, when I've done that before, the "installation" is really, really fast; almost like all it does is verify all the files, and re-establish a shortcut to the 'filmmaking' OS.)

That's what it did with MOH and Doom, and they never had any problems. Anyhow, when this crashing started, I re-read the patch readme, then for whatever reason, tried to re-installed it, and it claimed it couldn't find a valid installation (though I'm sure I'd already installed it the first time, (well, 2nd technically) from the 'filmmaking' OS.)

Anyhow, this is complicated... I guess I should just try another campaign and see what happens...

will report back if/when it happens
