khlevan, please make this sticky!
As I have some possible solution to this, i ask everybody to post this type of CTD's here. I need some statistical material to analize. ~;)
i need info on:
-circumstances - if this happened during siege or in battle far from city
-stacks engaged - if those had capitan or general
-ouctome - level of victory, and if any of defeated stacks survived (number of men left)
-crucial point- position of stacks before engagement - if any of them was standing over "siege works" graphics.

I'll look around see if I can find a freeware screen capture thats compatable w/ my pain in the arse 64bit chip board.
actually went back and redid the battles using the trimmed down trait txt and the saved battles went through fine. though I didn't get a chance to also active the script cause I saved at the pre battle screen. I've used this to get through about 3 more of the same type ctd's tonight. but its been the same min trait txt w/ script off.
Edit: I noticed the game doesn't ctd when I get a less-than heroic victory(w/eb traits on). I'll try one of the saves tonite to confirm, maybe get them to march into the enemy backwards. Thanks for the link.

I've had a few. Two I think were on Rhodos, and one was elsewhere (I forget where). All of them were from the AI breaking a siege with an external army (playing as Makedon against KH).
I think I have a savegame from one of them...

As mentioned in my own thread "this bug needs to be ironed out - now!" I´ve had numerous CTD´s when reinforcements are trying to break my sieges.
* Always CTD when reinforcements attack me during siege.
* NO recorded CTD when city sallies with reinforcements joining.
* A few CTD´s on an ordiary battlefield with reinforced enemies. (No more than vanilla, RTR etc games)
* I´ve had CTD´s with both generals and captains.
* When I kill all generals and most/ all men I get a CTD.
* Reinforcements always "stands" on the siege works-graphics.
* No CTD´s when autocalc.
Now, I´ve edited out the winter-marching trait and the CTD´s stopped. Then I installed the hotfix and the crashes came back, not as numerous, but still.
By accident I pressed "battle stats-button" at the end of the battle the the "continue-button" and the game didn´t crash. Now I always press the stats-button and have very few CTD´s. Might be irrelevant but I just thought you should know. Sorry that I can´t remember more details (above) and good luck hunting this bugger down!

When the next patch is up, I'd like to do a poll (not before the next patch though) that asks what factions people have experienced this specific CTD with. I'm interested in seeing if it's only certain ones.
Two weaks ago I had the reinforcement ctd in my Karthadastim (sp) campaign.
I laid siege to the Rebell town of Baikor in Iberia, the Rebells (general) in the Town sallied and get support from an Army nearby (captain).
It was a very difficult battle with lots of troops (~1500 vs ~4000) that lasts over an hour.
I get a Heroic Victory, and the game ctd while loading the Strat map....:furious3:
I was so frustrated that i abandoned my campaign, and didn't play for several days ...
Well, I've played two battles in my recent Baktria campaign where a rebel army attacks my army during a siege. In the first instance, the enemy army might have been within the siege anim. It and the garrison army were entirely destroyed (a couple hundred got out actually, but they were "fighting to the death" in the battle start menu), and were both commanded by captains. I got a ctd no matter what I did, running the script or not, clicking on the stats button or not, ending or continuing battle or not.
Second battle, in Taxila, enemy army attacks from behind, so outside of the siege anim. The garrison force had a general, the attacking force did not. Both armies were just about annihilated, though again a couple hundred from the garrison escaped but were "fighting to the death." No ctd.
The differences between the two seem to be: one had a general involved, one may have been on the siege works anim, while the other definitely wasn't. Other than that, they were very similar.
I've also fought two field battles where the enemy had reinforcements, and neither resulted in a post-battle ctd.
I have this problem at the moment. I am Rome and am beseiging Arse in Iberia, owned by the Carthaginians.
It is the spring of 233.
My troops consist of 3089 men (huge units) led by Spurius Curatius Bonosus and also containing another general. There are 19 units in this stack. 2 generals, 1 equites, 1 leuce epos, 1 triarii, 2 princepes, 2 hastati, 2 samnite spearmen, 2 mala gearos (sp?), 2 caetrati, 1 rorarii, 1 leves, 1 accensi and 1 sotroas. All are at full strength.
This stack is laying seige to Arse for the first turn and has been ordered to build 3 rams. It is directly to the north of the town. I end the turn with the script running. A small Carth force led by a captain attacks from the south west. It contains 209 men. 2 units of elephants and 1 unit of Numidian javlins all full strength.
The garrison of the town also sallies led by a general; Ahiram and 1358 men. 3 units of Iberian assault infantry (tough little beggars) at 150ish troops each, 1 scutarii (190), pikemen (25), elite pikemen (76), 2 units of libyans (more or less full), 2 cavalry (Numidian [44] and Iberian [70ish]) and a few other dribs and drabs. Total of 15 units.
The small army definately launches its attack from on the seige graphic. The one due west of the town.
I fight the battle on the battlemap and the small army rushes me and is destroyed except for a few elephants who rout.
The second army doesn't form into a coherent line at all. The general rides around the edge of the map and stops on the other side. He appears to be stuck on the red line. The main line of his army appears to be stuck on the red line at their initial entry point.
I march my men to their main line and they suprise me with a charge (quite a coherent one) and we begin slogging it out at different points. The enemy general now rides over and starts giving me some grief too. Eventually I have all their elite units surrounded and they start to die. When the enemy general dies the whole army routs. It took about 20 minutes.
The option to end battle comes up. I press end battle. Stats screen: heroic victory. 1480 kills, 7 losses from the first army, 661 from the second (I know, I know). Check out the stats and press to exit back to the campaign map. Goes through the load screen, full bar, then ctd.
It is the second time I fought that battle, the first time more or less the same thing but I carried on after it said I could end. Both times, both enemy leaders die and my two generals survived. Both times ctd. The first time I think I actually killed all the units except for a few elephants from the first army. Definately killed everyone from the 2 army though as I wanted to avoid an assault.
I hope this is useful in helping to identify the cause of this problem. Let me know if you need other details.
Cheers,
Stu.
EDIT: I tried it again, this time I replaced the siege graphic with the original from vanilla. I played the battle out and it went as usual. This time it did not CTD. However, this time I only got a Clear Victory. The Carths attacked again however, this time from behind me. I fought on the battlemap and won but I got a CTD this time and they definately attacked from behind and so not on the seige graphic (not that there was one because I had replaced it).
Not that I know what I was changing really. I just swapped the seige_icon.CAS file in the Data/models_strat/residences file and that might have done other things I don't know about. Still it was interesting that it didn't crash on the first battle this time.
2nd EDIT: Tried again with the original (vanilla) seige animation and it ctd'd after the first battle again. I got an heroic victory this time too. Maybe it's that. I'm fresh out of ideas. I'm going to watch a Woody Allen film.

Got another of these fighting the Aedui again; screenshots should explain most things I think. The first time it happened I was just about to break their last unit and it CTDed, the second time I got the victory screen and the loading screen and then the CTD.
I am not sure if this has been resolved yet, but here is is my information anyway. I hope its useful if this problem does not yet have a solution.

EDIT:
I believe that the "peasant icon" units in the Aedui armies are the Germanic light cavalry - Ridar-something.
I just had a CTD after a reinforcement battle with the 0.73 patch.
I was Roman, in a city not under siege, but with very nearby Macedonian armies.
I marched out my general's stack and attacked a Macedonian general stack,; it was reinforced by a nearby captain's stack.
Not sure about the victory level - I killed 1500, lost 200 or so. Some of the enemy escaped, but probably not enough to stop both armies routing and disappearing off the campaign map.
None of the stacks were over siege work graphics.

CTD with the new patch.
Was playing Bactria, laid siege to a city and the indians sallied out to attack me. My army was made up of a general, one unit of the phalanx pikemen you start out with, 2 unit of mercenary spear/archers, 3 regular units of spear/archers, one unit of sword/archers, and one unit of the 'mad' something cavalry. the rebels were indian. reinforcements were two units of indian archers. i was facing a full stack of one indian general with elephants, one unit of indian elephants, 6 units of those levy spearmen, and the rest were indian archers. also, there were no siege works. i killed around 1200 of their soldiers and they killed about 1000 of mine. they had a lot more troops left over (not sure exact number) and i had around 100 left.
i lost almost my entire army and when the battle time ended, it was a draw because my general survived and when i clicked that button, it CTDed.
Which troops were sallying, and which their reinforcements?

I had reinforcement CTD.
But it was wersion 07.3a...
Playing as Casse, 247 BC, Samon(fall)
It was a siege battle vs. Aedui, city of Avaricum, I was attacker.
My army had general, besieged army had general and reinforcement was one unit of Bataroa, captain. In the city, there were 11 units.
I won, It was a clear victory. Enemy captain and general fell, but some enemies probably survived (the game asked me If I want to end the battle after I conquered the Plaza, so there were enemies remaining somewhere)
My army was standing on the north of Avaricum after one round of besieging. Reinforcement was standing over "siege work" graphics. The reinforcing unit was on SW.

Now I tried it with 0.7.4 version. The same conditions, but this time i wiped enemy completely, nobody survived. The game CTD just before going to campaign map screen.

Which troops were sallying, and which their reinforcements?
The big army was sallying and the two units of indian longbowmen were the reinforcements.
My second Reinforcement CTD, after playing many battles with reinforcements without CTDing, with many different conditions. I failed to keep the first CTD save-game though.
Eiperos vs Romani v.74,
How to reproduce the CTD:
1. Load the game.
2. Click on any town and activate the script (though it CTDed without it too, I tested it).
3. Look at the Italian boot, that's where the action will happen.
4. Press End turn, a Romani army SHOULD attack the little Eiperote stack sitting at the border, when the battle screen pops-up, select WITHDRAW from battle.
5. The Eiperote little stack will retreat a few steps back and sit right next to another Eiperote stack, the Romans should attack AGAIN. And it's in this battle, with an Eiperote reinforcement stack, PLUS a Romani reinforcement stack that the CTD will happen at the end of the battle (only tested a victory).
If things don't work as planned, let me know and I'll upload a save from the second battle screen pop-up:

Has anyone taken these 'sure-fire-ctd-gamesaves' and tried malrubius' "no-trait" files? That basically removes all active traits (temporarily for testing purposes of course). Just curious.

It's so strange, ever since I started encountering this bug I've been saving before every battle, reinforcement or not. I then stopped getting the CTD's, so I started to slacken off with the saving. Then guess what happened...
I hate Murphy. Stupid laws...

I dont know if this is relevant, but it does involve reinforcements...
I was besieging a reb city as the romans. The city had nearly a full stack army (I had a three quarter stack or so). Anyway, a single reb unit attacked me during the siege. I chose to manually fight. The battle map appeared with the single reb unit in the middle and the full stack army (city garrison) way off in the distance (not yet on the active battle map, but slowly approaching). I quickly wiped out the single reb unit. The approaching reb army was not yet in the field of play and I was awarded the victory...when the strat map appeared I was also awarded the city...the huge garrison had disappeared...weird huh?
