View Full Version : Do Academies improve barbarian generals ?
Hi
i originally posted this question in the new members>Entrance Hall forum nobody there was sure and so one of the members recommended that i posted the question here as there was a higher chance a modder might know.
i ask the question as playing with a barbarian faction i thought it would be a good idea to try and take a settlement that had an academy as it might help a general acquire such retinue as a Mathematician philosophiser etc like Roman generals can

No, the barbarian culture is excluded of all (or most of) the ancillaries associated to the academic buildings.
There are even cases where the ancillary is even excluded for other cultures, for example the philosopher is excluded also for carthaginian, egyptian and eastern (only available to greek and roman).
Thanks Monkwarroir, its been hard finding an answer to this one
are there any other ways to improve the management skills of barbarian leaders?

It would be possible simply by editing export_descr_ancillaries.txt (in Data folder).
This is the entry of one of those ancillaries associated to the academic building:
;------------------------------------------
Ancillary librarian
Image scribe_ancillary.tga
ExcludedAncillaries actor, comedian
ExcludeCultures barbarian, nomad
Description librarian_desc
EffectsDescription librarian_effects_desc
Effect Influence 1
Effect Management 1
If you eliminate the whole line
ExcludeCultures barbarian, nomad
the ancillary could be assigned to a barbarian general in a settlement with an academy.
You can look for all the triggers where the academy is needed, see if the ancillary has something to do with management, influence or whatever, and do the same thing with them.
But if you try this system, please keep a backup copy of your original file.
