I would suggest to the my Muslim Brothers participating in this match to keep one eye open when they bend over towards Mecca during their prayers!! Anyway, do you think that this will promote "tolerance" in the warped logic of our "intellectually superior" European friends or is this just another silly attempt to offend the the Muslim community in Europe in order to break the burning cars record in the Guineas Book of World Records? What's your take?

I hope the gay team plays shirtless and I hope the muslim players all have big beards. I don't see what purpose this serves, if the gay team wins the muslims will riot and if the muslims win the gay people will still be "living in fear" because now the muslim youths can tease then for sucking at soccor and for, ya know, being gay. Do soccor hooligans for gay teams wear Roman armor when they brawl? Do muslim soccor fans eat hot dogs at the game?

Play on the hate freedom line...
Dev Dav why do you hate moderators so much? :inquisitive:
Parts of the Muslim community still resist homosexuality and receive little education about it
What utter nonsense.
The Muslims know full well what "homosexuality" means. What the speaker in the quote there really means is: Muslims who actually believe in the Koran resist homosexuality and will not submit to pro-homosexual propaganda.

Hey, has anybody else noticed that in recent times when people refer to Europe they almost always refer to Western Europe?

Yes, but how am I, someone of european descent, supposed to tell wether people are trying to insult eastern or western Europe?

You're supposed to ignore the Yanks, like in this thread.
What is exactly the problem here Dave? I see none.
I knew it would be in the Netherlands before I even clicked the link. ~

This is a great thread, enjoy the challenge!!!:laugh4:
I think there would be a great discussion on this. Basically, when does percieved tolerance turn into offensive gestures by well intentioned individuals? A fine line I know and I want the opinions of my fellow organites.

Don't have a problem with this, although I don't think the relations between Muslims and gays will improve one bit - whatever the score ~;)
On a side note, who do you think 'll win ?

the major thing with racism and homophobia is that people tend to demonise the 'other', while making exceptions for the people they know.
listen when you hear people talk about objecting to foreigners or immigrants... it's always 'oh, the Kumars are ok, i see them at school. the problem is all the bloody [insert whoever here]'.
Same here. A lot of gay people are just as in to football as everyone else, and are just as physical, and just as competitive...
Same goes for muslims.
when you've spent some time socialising on neutral ground it's a lot less likely that you are going to be afraid of the other....
It's pretty simple, really. Most people aren't stereotypes... Mixing in situations like this emphasises the similarities while minimising the differences. Nobody is expecting the muslims to approve of the homosexuals, but if the games can encourage toleration and lack of fear in both sides. it fights the assumption that people are defined solely by one issue, and finds common ground.
For example, afterwards, it's less likely that after this game anyone would be making tired and stereotyped jokes like this...
"I would suggest to the my Muslim Brothers participating in this match to keep one eye open when they bend over towards Mecca during their prayers!!"
I've played Rugby against an all-gay team in London (who wore Pink kit, which i thought was hilarious). Believe me, after you've spent 80 minutes being hit hard by tackles and boots and studs, any stereotypes you have fall out of the window.

It reminds me of those "World Peace Games" or whatever they were called, back in the '80's. People were trying to "bridge the divide" between the Soviets and modern society. They should have just played racquetball off the Berlin Wall.

If the gay team wins all the muslim players have to go get makeovers administered by the gay team. If the muslim team wins the gay team gets beheaded.

As usual you missed the real news, Dave. This is The Netherlands -- always mind the small print:
A Latin team along with a team of all-women players has also been assembled for the government-sponsored competition.
Heh... https://img381.imageshack.us/img381/4291/sunglassescool0nm.gif (https://imageshack.us)
I think any football games a good game, as long as both teams remember its only a game :2thumbsup:
Man what a splendid idea!:laugh4:
Let’s just hope they don’t start playing dirty with scratching and biting going
around.
Then things could turn out pretty ugly.
Anyway, my money is on the gay team.:2thumbsup:
On a side note:
What you think would happen in the showers?
I think some of you are exaggerating the reaction of muslims towards gay people. Here in Turkey, we have many gay and transexual singers. Most of these singers are muslims(I am not arguing whether a gay can be a muslim; but they believe in Islam). Even devout muslims listen to their songs.
Of course that does not mean that gays have no problem in muslim communities. Celebrities have it easier than common people. But it is not as bad as some of you want to believe. I doubt the gays have more problems with conservative muslims than they have with conservative christians.
Not every muslim is a saliva dripping fanatic...
