What ingame sound unnerves/annoys you the most? I'd go with the sound of the soliders issuing commands to eachother in Half-Life I, not because it was scary, but becasue it meant that you we're going to spend 10 minutes trying to out maneuver 5 commandos(The AI in Half-Life I was amazing, considering that it the game is like 6 years old)

The music in pretty much every game except Star Wars games.
The occasional sound "YEEEEAAAARRRRGGHHHH" in Starcraft (+ same sample is used in a zillion radio/TV ads, many songs and even some movies, seems to be some kind of a running gag between sound mixers)

The Terran Academy sound (in Starcraft) was particularly grating.
Some of the Zerg units, too.

I think I'll add the voice acting for the Chinese in C&C...ugh!
"The day is oooooooooouuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrssssss!" from RTW.
I tend to hate the constipation sounds that play in almost 100% of games when your male character is performing any sort of jump.

Dammit, all this time I assumed you were a pacifist...
Morrowind's music can get tiresome after a while.

Ah man! I remeber that! First time I played I didn't bother to read the manual and after about a minute it start going off and it took me about 10 minutes to figure out how to allocate plebs to my various projects.

I think units saying their name when selected in RTW, or RTS character saying "yes sir!", "on your command!" and so on... Oh, and those 60 minute missions in FPS games where the alarm is on during the entire mission...

I hate those generic laughing sounds, in movies and in games.
You hear them a lot in tycoon games, those irritating sounds are the reason I stopped playing them.

Got to agree with nearly all of these. Extra hatred points for "Plebs are needed!" and Black and White's whinging villagers.
I hated the crappy fake trumpet noise generated by the interface link to the court screen in Crusader Kings. I once saw it called "electronic fart trumpets". One of the few sound effects I have physically ripped out of a game, deleted entirely from my PC, and then replaced with something more tasteful.
Any game which features any sort of audio alarm for when you are down to a certain tiny portion of your health. Gah! Repeat after the frog: Annoying noises are distracting. Distraction is not a good thing when you are nearly out of health. Including such sound effects should be punishable by being beaten with large sticks. Repeatedly. While the accursed sound effect plays endlessly.

I hope it's not in the actual game, but the 'screaming in the distance' in Sniper Elite demo got beyond unnerving, and moved quickly into froggy's "rip it out" therapy.

The civil unrest noises in STW and MTW when you got late into a campaign. You knew they would happen every turn, and sure enough, you get "murmur murmur HAAAEGGHHHHHHHH!!" a half-dozen times in a row. This was a constant annoyance.
I like all game sounds.... At least I don`t dislike/haven`t any of the ones mentioned in this thread. :book:

The hissing noise when you overheat a machine gun in BF2 is pretty annoying, usually becausei t means you've got about 5 seconds to go...

Those are so annoying. Especially if the game has a huge easy to see "health meter" that flashes and turns red. What's the point?
I think that I'll add pretty much all of the sounds in HomeWorld 2. The fact that you hear them constantly doesn't help...I don't need to hear a little voice everytime one of my fighters gets shot at, espically half way through the game when you hear it every several seconds.

Almost forgot - the "assasin captured" in MTW was really annoying, especially later in the game when there was 12 in a row. :furious3:

I actually hated the vanilla RTW music in the background. Annoyed me. And the sound of italian soldiers in Codename Panzers 2. Just awful.

I would have to say all in game music, I always turn it off.

Virtually all the main party's speech samples in Baldur's Gate - especially the ones with grating Brooklyn Jewish accents. In fact I had to get rid of one pretty good character because her know-it-all "Jewish mother" accent/attitude so got on my nerves.
But other than that, mainly because the speech samples were so infuriatingly repetitive and witless.
Oh, the speech samples of those perpetually annoyed incidental female characters in Morrowind also really got on my willies too.

Yes, those very American "Move out!" and "Orders completed, sir!" samples were pretty annoying, not to mention out of place.

My vote goes to the Succubus butt slap/squeal in WoW.
I add my vote to the enthusiastic eunuch from RTW, as well as the replies you get when selecting troops, both on the campaign map and in battle. In fact, I started a Hun campaign in BI last weekend, and quit soon thereafter, partly because I was very much irritated by the constant "MIGH-ty GEN'ral" stuff my numerous stacks kept throwing at me. "Yes, sir", "Orders completed", "Who shall die this day?", and the horrible, horrible accents... it just makes me want to curl up in fetal position and weep.
depending on my mood the "Yes, strappy horse (strategos)" can be either annoying or funny.
I'll second "Mighty General" - that gets old fast.

Final Fantasy battle music. Again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and by the mother of pies! AGAIN! Gets right up my arse.
"The day is ooooouuurs!" sucks too. All RTW voice acting was pretty crap.

I just put on some music of my own when playing a console-style rpg. Haven't played one with voice acting though.

I recently played SW:KOTOR, and the "box opening" and "body searching" sounds really got annoying after a while, especially after having to wait to get the items. Being new to CRPGs, I've just recently realized what this was all about. The items would not appear until the sound had completed playing, or until the box had fully opened. Cumulatively, this could add several minutes, even an hour on to total game time. Adding more "gameplay hours" is a good way to advertise your game.

Well, it would not be a CRPG without having to search crates. KOTOR was guilty of that, but to be honest the inventory management system in that game was rather nice, IMO. You could quickly cycle through all the potentially lootable objects in the area and carry as much as you wanted. I hate these "realistic" systems, where you have constraints on how much you can carry and dislike having to go pixel hunting to find the good stuff. The time and frustration spent on managing your inventory in those games (even the superlative ones like the BGs, FOs, MWs, JA2s etc) dwarf any time spent waiting in KOTOR for crates to open.
