Wallmart if all else fails. Usually just as cheap as a normal game store.

Personally, Im getting sick and tired of EB and Gamestop. Their used game program is a total racket. They ripoff poor shlubs, usually giving pennies on the dollar for used games and then turn around and sell them for just a few dollars below new prices and make an obscene profit. But, people arent forced to trade in their games? True, but the other problem with their used games trade is that it screws the developers out of their cut for game sales. If you like a developer and want them to keep making games- buy new.

The second thing that irritates me is that they're starting to use more annoying sales tactics. I go in to ask when Oblivion will be out:
'On the 21st'
'Ok, thanks' -I start to leave
'Did you pre-order?'
'No' -again, starting to leave
'The only way to get it is if you pre-order'
'No thank you'
'You dont want it on the day its released?'
'I guess not' I finally walk out ignoring any further queries
:wall:
What really annoys me is that more than just their annoying sales pitch (do they get commission on pre-orders?), is the fact that she's flat out lying. Maybe your store wont have it on release, but Target, Walmart, Circuit City, and Best Buy all most probably will- because they dont do that ridiculous pre-order crap. :furious3:

Sorry, had to get that off my chest- continue with the thread.

I really hate EB and Gamestop as well. It wouldn't be so bad if their employees weren't so damn smug about everything. "Oh, we don't have it. Did you preorder it? You can only get it if you preorder it." What the hell does that mean?

Best Buy...:2thumbsup: , thats where I do all of my tech shopping if newegg.com ever fails me, which as it turns out, hasn't...plus they have a lot of PC games.

I actually rather like EB Games. For 2 bucks extra you get a 2 year warranty on whatever you buy.How many times have you used that? ~;p

Translation: How much money have you wasted while EBGames employees smirk at you from behind the counter?

I'm sure you also have Wal-Mart and BestBuy, or possibly Circuit City or CompUSA.

Back in the day when stores like E.B. and Gamestop had 50% or more of their shelf space devoted to PC gaming, I loved to shop there. They were usually pretty well stocked and there were always great treasures to be found on the used shelf, or in the bargain bins. They still had a no-questions asked full return policy back then on any new PC game and sometimes at least one or two of the staff were actually was a PC gamers.

Now that their stores are about 80 to 85% devoted to console games, I hardly ever visit any more. They discontinued both their open return policy and selling used PC games--plus their staffers are pretty much all console gamers now. I realize that any business is going to get rid of those aspects that are not profitable, but it is still sad to see the change.

I can find just about anything I want now at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, or CompUSA, and if a game is really obscure then I shop on-line through someone like Chips & Bits. There is also a site called the Software Society that stocks old and rare games.

Cheers

I'm doing all my game shopping online now. The stores never have what I want, when I want it. I love browsing in stores, but the PC game section is getting smaller and smaller every time I go to CompUSA or BestBuy.

Actually compusa/bestbuy do preorders.

They don't do it with all games, but if the publishers release a preorder box they sell the preorder with bonus material

True, you just grab those off the shelf though- you're not badgered by salespeople to pre-order....

Gamestop gets on my nerves too and I was stupid enough to give them my email. Preorders are dumb anyway, unless its a MMORPG where you get the special cape or rare fighting stick, which is even stupider.

I really hope used PC games never takes off because it will kill the industry and content will turn to poop
