View Full Version : Can rebels be made less frequent yet?
I'm just about to download and install the patch - I haven't played for ages. Is there any way i can reduce the spawn rate of rebels? I enjoy playing on VH/M but when i have to fight 8 stacks of rebels every turn because if i try to auto-calc i lose half of my army even though i would clearly win with like 5 casualties... It gets annoying.

in that case, what an appropriate name for a bringer of bad news :D
And btw, it's 'fond', not 'found' in your sig...

How can you not enjoy rebels?
I think the rebels should be more ferocious.
There's nothing more fun than fighting a tense two front war only to see a rebel army emerge from some nearby woods thus resulting in you suddenly screaming "OH SHIT!!!", and then overcoming them with tactical brilliance, or better yet, tricking them into wandering into your enemies territories and wreaking havock upon them.
yeah that would be fine and all if CA actually made the rebels spawn areas and frequency relevant to some type of game mechanic. sure, that would be great if I got a nice big stack of brigands when my cities turn red, however this is as far from reality as you can get. in reality the rebels spawn what can only be deemed randomly all over the map, the only thing to stop the rebels from spawning is to not build roads. they will spawn even if the provinces loyalty is 300% and you're building a large temple

That's the problem with rebels in a nutshell. Strategy games are all about choices and options. You have no way of doing anything about rebels. If they were related to decisions you could take they'd be fine.
Need more cash->raise taxes but at the risk of more rebels
Farm upgrades->less peasant revolts
Units in forts on roads->less brigands
Limited resources and pros and cons with whichever way you choose to use them is the essence of strategy games. The total randomness of the rtw rebels is what is wrong with them.
