I've just finished a battle of titans with AoE III. it started as a 4 vs 4 battle on expert. i was he french with a lvl4 home city. my allies were Portuegese, Russians and the English. the map was texas
early on my allies were destroyed and i was on my own. i had a fort located near a tradepost and i stood my ground. but combined attacks of 4 enemies eventually defeated me there and i had to retreat to my base.
i had build walls around it and trained many heavy canons. i thought i was ready but nothing could prepare me for this hell. the first few attacks were nothing more but brute force my guns eliminated them with ease but then they learned and started to build culverins. i saw my guns get killed faster than i could train them and to make it worse. they breached my walls.
my musketeers could drive them back and i was save once more. instead of making heavy canons i started to make culverins. this minimized my casualties and i could even spare enough rescourses to build a second wall. and a third. and in the meanwhile they continued attacking once again they breached my walls and once more i drove them back. that would be the last time they would ever set foot in my base.
my casualties were now brought back to one of mine for 10 of them. my canons remained almost unharmed during every attack but my cavalry which i used to defeat guns out of reach of my canons went trough hell...almost no cavalryman survived a charge none survived two.
i started to use a small group of musketeers with a mortar to harass the prussian base when they were attacking me. after some time i forced them to resign. i did the same with the spanish. after that the battle was back in my favor.
i build a port in a lake in the center of the map and trained a navy. my ships now controlled the map. a all out attack on the dutch and ottoman camps were a succes and i had won this battle.
the result!
the enemy suffered over 12000 casualties which is major, most definitly in AoE. i lost around 1000 men mostly musketeers.
