Welcome to the Org, CunningOne. ~

There are virtually no mods for plain MTW 1.1; you need Viking Invasion for pretty much all the mods out there (I've had great fun playing VikingHorde's XL mod myself). I highly recommend picking up VI if you can. Not just because that will allow you access to all of the excellent mods, but it also adds a lot of neat things to the original game all by itself.

That said, there *is* one mod out there that's still available for vanilla Medieval (although you need you have the 1.1 patch installed): Wes' MedMod (http://wes.apolyton.net/). Just page down the screen until you find Medieval mod IV v1.85 for Total War v1.1. The readme for the mod is here (http://wes.apolyton.net/Total_War_readmes/1.85_Readme.htm); it tells you all of the major changes Wes has made to the original game. I haven't played MedMod myself, but it was pretty popular and widely used until Viking Invasion was released. It is by virtually all accounts a fantastic mod, especially in terms of improving realism and the AI. Hope you enjoy!

King Davids Patrician mod was one of the best for the original medieval, long for Paladin or Grell as they both did good mods for it as well. Wes did several med mods also.
