Can someone show me examples of surface mining in the West, with unwanted damage to the enviroment.
Can anyone post exapmles of how surface mining in their country afects the enviroment ( pictures would be great ).

(note: this is mostly pertaining to underground mining)

I'll see if I can dig up some info on surface mining - since 1977, damage from that has been limited here in the US. We're 'cutting off' fewer mountaintops these days.

You mean strip mining; mining the mantle and core would be kinda tough right now. By law mining companies have to restore the land to its previous condition (or something like that, it tends to meet with various levels of success). Please no lectures on the evils of mining, hypocrisy is so unbecoming.
