I don't think it's changed much from world war II. In most armies a company is about 200 men, a battalion, usually four companies or about 1000 men, a regiment or brigade, two or three battalions or 2-3000 men, a division, two to four regiments or brigades or about 7-12,000 men, a corps, two-six divisions, an army, two-six corps.

Not too sure of units below company level. I think a platoon might contain about 60-80 men but I'm not sure about a squad, possibly 20 men.

The American military has changed a lot lately. Do a search for topics like Force XXI or other internet searches. There's been a lot of changes in the post-Soviet era.

Oh, and there's been no "build up", more like a gutting. China's military is "building up" while the US military is filling in the gaps.

The term you're looking for is "military organisation." "Military build-up" AFAIK refers to the mobilization and deployement of the military, and/or its equipping, training and general expansion on the longer term.

Currently it's somewhat like this, it varies between Air Assault, Airborne, Mechanized, Light, and Regular Infantry units but for my unit (Light) it's the following:
From the smallest unit to the largest I know the composition of
Antitank teams : 2 soldiers
Gun teams : 3 soldiers
Rifle Team: 4 soldiers
Weapons Squad: 2 gun teams 1 antitank teams plus Squad Leader
Rifle Squad: 2 teams plus Squad Leader
Rifle Platoon:3 rifle squads, 1 weapons squad, plus Platoon Leader Platoon Sergeant Radio Telephone Operator and usually an attached Medic from the battalion Medical Platoon
Rifle Company: 3 Rifle Platoons 1 HQ Platoon (supply, sniper team, 2 60mm mortar sections ) plus Company Commander, Executive Officer, First Sergeant, and more RTOs
Infantry Battalion: 3 Rifle Companies 1 Motorized Company (for antitanke uses, not sure of composition) 1 HQ Company (medics, scout platoon, mechanics, more supply guys) plus Battalion Commander, XO, Sergeant Major, a full Staff S1 S2.... even more RTOs
2 or more Infantry battalions make a regiment example 1 inf reg consists of 1/1 2/1 Inf Battalions
Brigades consist of mixed battalions with usually 3-4 inf Battalions a Artillery Battalion Engineers Cav troops etc...
Divisions have multiple Brigades
Corps have multiple Divisions
Armies have multiple Corps
above this I don't know,

Most organzational field manuals are available online, I got most of mine from AKO but google will bring them up, try 7-8 and 7-10 for Infantry platoons and companies. Each division usually has a webpage which lists the different brigades and battalions
