I have an idea for the next total war game I haven't seen mentioned yet

Supply Lines.
Armies should have the choice of either living of the land (causing the infamous devastation like in RTW) or to rely on help from the city they left from. Little lines on the map could show where the lines were, and if you are cut off, you loose troops each turn, as if the army had a light case of the plauge. Getting cut off would be caused by emeny armies stepping on your lines over a turn. Living off the land could cause dissent in the settlement of that region, making the city harder to control once you stop parading around the countryside and lay seige.

Any feedback much apppreciated!

That is a good idea. Although I think it should be an option that you could turn on and off. It might be a little too much for some players who aren't that into the game. It would be a cool new feature for some of the regular and hardcore players.

Great idea!

Quite apart from the supply situation, shouldn't the morale of units dip when they suddenly find their supply lines and avenues of escape under threat?

I really like the Idea, Regular and Hardcore players would love it although as bettkicker19 said It may be a bit much for new players.

AT their times, armies didnt have supply lines. They had supplies on them and they programmed to pass through friendly cities to resupply themselfs. Maybe this way is better. But it will complicate the game a lot.

Good idea on paper, tricky to pull off practically it gets tedious enough dealing with the uber empires in Rome medieval if anything should streamline the process.
Possibly if you're in the red then it could affect the troops through your inability to keep them supplied.
