In a perverse way, I'm going to miss Tom DeLay. He was such a blatant crook, you kind of had to admire him. A good take: (http://www.tnr.com/blog/theplank?pid=12790)

But no one ever called [Tom DeLay] self-aware. It's the same thing when he says his liberal enemies respect no bounds (see Texas redistricting), that they specialize in personal attacks (see impeachment), or that they're a bunch of pampered elites (see his personal butler). He truly is a fascinating specimen. Indeed, I'm reminded of a great scene from the movie Alien, wherein an android scientist warns the humans about their fate.

ASH: You still don't know what you're dealing with do you? Perfect organism. Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility.

LAMBERT: You admire it.

ASH: I admire its purity, its sense of survival; unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality.

Much as Ash admired the alien, on some level you have to admire Tom DeLay. He really will be missed.

He is a politician and they act without conscience, remorse or morality. He has not done anything other politicians would have done in his position (I am not even sure he has broken any laws as he has not been convicted. Innocent until proven guilty doesn’t count when you’re in the spotlight and the liberal media controls the spotlight) but I do think he made himself an easy target and didn’t defend well against a horde of very aggressive attacks from the left. It will turn out to be a positive move for the republicans and it will take away a punching bag from the left. Its not like they are forcing him out to replace him with some savior, it will be another R politician and Tom will most likely become a lobbyist earning double his current salary.

Yeah, Ole Hot Tub Tom (his Texas monicher) will be missed .... not. He'll still be laundering money for the chosen and brokering the same deals for corporations and the wealthy he always has; even after he gets out of prison (just like a former VP did - Agnew). He'll just not be in congress.

Tom Delay, what a beaut. Rarely in the analogs of corrupt congressmen has such a fine specimen raised its ugly head. We might have to go back to the 1880s (or 1974). Delay introduced the $million dollar plan, that's what it takes for a person to run for election to the House (Senate is about 10-50 times that depending on the State) today.

His accomplishments are wide known; His "Project Relief" - relief from labor standards in the work place (watering down OSHA to a point where it no longer has meaning - also making it illegal to a sue an employer for neglegence), relief from tougher rules on meat inspection, relief from monitoring hazardous air pollutants. And of course relief for the Wealthiest, while fighting against raising the minimum wage. What a guy.

I truely wish he had stayed long enough to be humiliated in his coming election, but unlike some he seems to have the common sense to come in out of the rain. Still, I must confess that there will be only a little glee in my heart when "Hot tub Tom" meets Bubba in prison (I know, he'll get to go to the posh one with tennis courts, but ....one can dream).

To laud a man that has demonstrated his complete contempt for this nations political processes, its values, its laws and to sell them to the highest bidder - well, that is the shame. That is, that someone can feel that way about someone that is intent on stealing their rights and vote. His leaving is a good thing, unfortunately he leaves to late ... or to soon. Pity, really.

I did a dance on Tom Daschle's grave last election so I guess this is only fair.

While I seriously doubt the charges against him will stick, I'm not sad to see him go. He was among the worst of the GOP congression sell-outs, imo and certainly no friend of limited-government types.

Definitely, a brilliant political animal though- smiling for his mugshot was genius.

Oh, and Aliens > Alien.

Good riddance. This scumbag was the epitome of partisan hacks. He never saw an earmark he didn't like. Pretty much a Republican Pelosi, to boot. A good whip and all that, but not what you need when you already hold all the cards. I'd do just about anything to have Newt back. At least he thought once in awhile.

Good riddance. That corrupt ******* has done nothing for anyone ever, unless they donated to his next ellection run. His disgusting corruption has blemished Texas politics. He deserves to be lynched by Cindy Shecan't. He's single handely made anyone runing for congress forced to pay millions of dollars just to stand a chance. As more regulations are put in forcing canidits to pay even more money to even be put on the ballets I slowly see any chance of a non corrupt politician runing slowly disapearing.

He doesnt deserve respect. He was a very good corrupt politician yes, but you don't congratulate or respect them for that. Thats along the lines of saying I respect a pedaphile becuase he was industriously molesting many kids. Personally I think the Democrats and Republicans should be shaking in their thousand dollar shoes, hopefully this ellection we'll kick the bums out.

Good bye and good riddance.

personally i think most of america doesnt really care one way or another whether tom delay got caught, was indicted, really is corrupt, or what will happen to him. just as long as their must-see-tv isn't interrupted.
