Gilles Trehin is an autistic 28-year-old. Since the age of 12, he has been designing an imaginary city called Urville.

Wow, autistics generally have an obsession and definitely this guy had one..Very good work and unexpected power of imagination.

The houses are too high, and too similar. It's looking like one of those typical grey concrete suburbs where people have sex, watch television and commit suicide in their spare time.

Some of it looks like Liverpool, Paris, or London.
Its weird, I looks at these drawing and they feel familiar, yet distant and strange. Its like a generic city, it could be anywhere.
Does anybody else get that feeling?
There is also a part of me that thinks it is a hoax.

The layout, minus the circle, definitely reminds me of London. The architecture in the second picture also resembles London. In the first, there are too many high rises around what appears to be a historical building to be London. The circle is obviously reminicsent of the free-for-all that is Paris.

This one looks like the Gherkin stuck onto the Palace of Westminster where Big Ben would be, minus the Thames, and with New York in the background. I think that's a huge ice rink with trees where the Thames would be, how fun and how 'London'.
Anyway, this reaffirms how cool and fun autistic people are.:2thumbsup:

Very impressive except for the distribution of the people. It would be a pity if something happened to those papers

Some of them are real perverts....I have experienced that myself after that I have gone in the same class as one, for seven years during primary school.
That was not a special class, thank you very much.

it immediatly made me think of the paris boulevards...but also of other cities...just like you say
If you cut a couple floors of those first biuldings then I would have said Copenhagen... I guess our European cities have a great deal of similarity when you clean away all the little stuff.
This is very much a generic European metropolitan area. Perhaps that is why it seems so alive? Becasue so many people from all over can relate to it?
But notice that the trees are in fact palms... Then it seems likely that this is a subtropical place. And then I think it would be a really nice place.
But his cathedral, unless built in metal is impossible. Masonry would collapse under it's own weight without flying buttresses and a wider base for the tower.
But I think some architects should take a look at these drawings. They could use his imagination.

Maybe we should deisgn our own city. Or rather what the .Org would look like if it was a real city.

@The Doctor: One block of Medieval architecture in the center, with Prague looking Kafka style alleys between the high cathederal looking buildings. Around it would be blocks of Gaudi buildings, forming a gradual smooth changeover between city and nature. There should be plenty of water in the city, somewhat remniscent of Venice in some places. Between each block, there should be rivers or channels, and next to each river/channel, villas :2thumbsup:

In the thread title, but PJ makes it sound as if the guy uses
his illness as an excuse for not getting a job. :inquisitive:

Who says that he DOESN'T have a real job?
Have you guys looked at the history, geographics and economy of the place?
He has really created a world... I'm surprised at the effort put into it.
Btw, the place is on a large island off Nice (about so). And it has around 11 million inhabitants.
