View Full Version : New Forum for New
As membership grows, a separate forum for those new to the game might be nice. It may at least prevent those of you who are experts from getting too annoyed.

nah, we don't get annoyed. there are plenty of people here who are happy to step in and be helpful..it's not like us vets are required to answer every post, despite the appearance that I do!

Yah, anyway, who'd be answering your queries then? Other newbies? This way is fine. Ya just gotta put up with Soly's mood swings. hehe

Kagnok, you have my support!
I like to visit the whole of the sword dojo to pick up tips and info, i even participate in some discussions but for those days when i have a "duh!" comment or observation to make about the game, i will defenitely be more comfortable here, amongst new enthusiastic singleplayers. By the way, what is a "camper"? I saw it mentionned a couple of times and i presume it is a newbie playing defensively, am i right?
If i am right, until i get better at playing offensively i will play friendly games with people like me...anyone interested?
Have a honorable day everyone!!!

A camper isn't necessarily a newbie, just some one who defends, finds a nice big hill to sit on with lots of guns or archers, then won't comeown an fight the attacker, making it nigh on impossible to beat him. No fun for either party.
Perhaps if it instigated it shoul be called an advice forum or something along those lines, rather than funneling newbies into there an have them never come out. They need to be able to get involved with the dojo proper or they won't have any fun. It'd just give the option to ask dumb qurstion in a place most users won't ever see them.

maybe a better thing would be a "newbie archive" with all the basic queries people tend to ask over and over--sort of a SuperFAQ. And also in it could be a list of forum do's and don'ts: "The Way of the Scribe" http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
I know when I first logged on I was very tentative about making people think "AARGH-a newbie" (now they just think "AARGH-a idiot").
The key thing to making this work would be barring Soly from tormenting them http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Even the just out of newbie stage are having a go at Soly. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif
Do the the newer members know about the strategy archive that is here?

The first 500 members are typically the most genuine. Just a lesson from dozens of other bulletin boards. Please keep it in mind when you have 5000 users instead of 500!
(by then I won't care, anyway)
Thanks all for your strategy guides, and links to useful documents (like the European manual). Very helpful.

1000 posts in four months, it'll take him about another three years to get there

Contuberalis has a fine idea. There'd be a LOT fewer repeat questions with such an archive.
Soly's icon should be a bullseye..hehe

I dunno 'bout this new breed of self-styled newbies cracking wise at my expense.... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
There already is an archive, it's accessible at the bottom of the screen on any forum threads mainpage, just scroll along the sub-menu and find the archive section. It's worth printing out since some are pretty long and digress from time to time from the main point.
and no, I have no intention of ever getting near 10000 posts, and can't even see myself going much further beyond the initial 1000, though some users are gaining quickly

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Soly!! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
Seriously though, I think Soly is a great person who keeps on us on our toes--like the slave who whispered in the Roman general's ear "all men are mortal" during his triumph.
Contuberalis has a fine idea. There'd be a LOT fewer repeat questions with such an archive.
Being a raw newbie (got the game on the weekend) I spent 19 hours in solid play before spirialing into bed. In all that time I could not find out how to make the Archers attack HTH when they ran out of arrows.
Before I posted the question on the board, I used the search function, and sure enough the question had been asked before.
I'm sure 99.9% of the standard questions have already been asked and answered, so really it is only a matter of doing a quick seach on the archives for the answer.

Well it took me three days to find out that archers can go HTH when I first started to play this game. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
