View Full Version : My second impression(good/bad rant)

I just downloaded the patch and applied it on my copy of EB 0.72.
Well, the patch didn't impress me much at all. Just some minor fixes which don't affect me very much.

What I was annoyed by:
-building browser still down
-the game is still slow
-descriptions are missing

What I liked:
-you fixed most of the descripts
-slightly better gameplay

Just my 2 cents. Any explanations?

Are you using the high priority shortcut to start the game? I notice a huge increase of speed when using it, especially during the computer turns.

The original OB was very unstable, the latest patch has improved stability tremendously, to the point where I very rarely see a CTD. As far as I'm aware the CTDs were the main thing the team were trying to eradicate up to and including the last patch.

The latest April Preview suggests that the upcoming update will contain more cosmetic improvements such as new units and descriptions, new traits and ancillaries etcetc.

I'm not on the team though so I dont really know :)

The building browser just plain will not display properly if there are complex conditionals in the building code. Nikolai has worked on this and gotten some things better, and hopefully more changes can be made to get that going well when we get fully into 1.5, but there is no way to make the browser work perfectly without sacrificing some of the complexities in the building situation. And we're not doing that.

The patches since the open beta have not been total repacks of the mod. It would take total repacks to put any new units or building graphics in the game, as well as to fix many of the problems with gray peasants showing up in place of the unit's card - and same with some buildings. When we release future builds they probably won't be packed in certain regards to stop this from posing a roadblock in the future like it has.

Yeah Teleklos, I got that. I know it's very hard to unpack and pack again, but you're a great team and I hope you can do that. ~:)

It's not that it's hard, it's that changing one thing in the pack requires a patch to have a whole new pack file (which means every patch would be pretty much full size).

And can't you just release partial patch that we will just add to the one before instead of a packed patch ?
like you do partial patch 0.73, 0.74. 0.75, and pack them all when you release 0.8 only ? and then again more partial release until a bigger packed patch ?
I dunno if am being clear or not, nor if its possible or not...
But my understanding was, that unless you have something big, like a major game change, or a map change or something like that, where you cant just give a simple patch, all the other .txt changes can just be "placed" on top of the other ?

Anyway, just wanted to help... I love the Mod already...

We could add new units, but we can't add new graphics files that overwrite the old ones, so we can't fix any graphics bugs on existing units.

I'm sure your help would be great, do you have any specialties?

I forgot to say, I never had a CTD with the 0.72 BETA. Very stable, but very resource draining.

say, how do I set EB to high priority? I never thought to ask before, but with my graphics card and RAM getting old I need to route more resources to EB to prevent it from hanging like it keeps doing now.

I don't know what you're talking about. The game is faster and much more stable. You must have a bad install because .74 is a vast improvment.

Just enter EB, Alt-Tab and go to Task Manager. At Processes, select EB and right click it. At Priority, set it to High Priority. ~:)

That should help you much.

It should, except that for some strange reason I can't call up task manager anymore o_O Is there any other way to access it save with ctrl-alt-del?

You can also reinstall v.74, and make sure to select the "High Priority Shortcut" during installation (it's one of four optional checkboxes). The new EB shortcut on your desktop will have all the high priority settings built-in.
