I don't know if you're joking or not, but I'll explain anyway. In american football, at a certain time in a game the center needs to 'snap' the ball a long distance. Some call this 'deep snap' and some call it 'long snap'. SFTS, is doing a poll to see, which phrase is used most.:2thumbsup:

Long snap. The job description for the center in field goal/punt plays is "long snapper".

:laugh4: I thought it was a discussion about alternatives to the phrase "cold snap", as in a sudden gush of cold weather... I don't know nothin' about american football.

Interchangeable. But "Long Snap" is an older term - one I heard and used as a kid in the 50's & 60's. I think I heard "deep snap" on Monday Night Football, within the last 6-7 years. Probably a Texan-ism... those guys take their High School football very seriously. More so than the NFL even.

On a side note: It's actually a pretty tough physical skill to master, in effect 'throwing' the ball between your legs, while looking upside-down at a target more than 5 yards behind you. AND of course, with the knowledge of several 300-pound guys only seconds away from smashing you into the ground.

It's a quick snap if the QB is a little frisky..........unlees the center is gay then it's a long snap. Oh and don't make me explain the deep snap
