View Full Version : A Compilation mod for all work... can we make it happen?

Hello
Looking at the 'future' thread, and ER's copyrighting thread, it has come to my attention that there is so much great work out there, and not being used to its full potential.

What i propose, is that before the release of M:TW2, we should make a compilation RTW mod, consisting of any good skins, models, maps, animations or whatever, that has been made by either mods or the community.

I hope if you read this that you reply, as if enough people like the idea of a collaborative mod, then it may take place.

Now, i am not naive, and realise that there are problems.

Firstly, if you decide to help, you dont actually have to do much. You can help by maybe allowing the use of some of your best skins, or maybe letting the community have pieces of an old project.

For obvious reasons, i think this collaborative 'mod' ,should there be any interest, take place in the 'vanilla' type area and time, as quite a few mods take place here.

My strategy would be to ask that skinners/ moddelers/ mappers, maybe donate some of your work to the mod, to help it progress. Then, it would be a fairly simple task of asking mod teams for some donations, and then maybe myself and anybody else whom is willing, piece the pieces of the puzzles together.

Really, my aim is to create a mod on behalf of the community, featuring the best parts of mods over the years, to eventually produce a final celebration of all that has been achieved.

I would appreciate any feedback/comments on this idea of mine...

Cheers

i am not really sure how this would work... although on paper it is a good idea

like some of the stuff EB has made/done wouldn't go well with, say, some of the stuff you, lentonius, have made... although on paper it sounds like a good plan... it would be HUGE if we got every good thing people have made and also many of the maps are different and intended for different game styles

my 2cents,

This seems like it would be a roman-era-only (or ancient classicall) project - or else you would have some very "diverse" units and regions ;)

I would say it would really be a mod from the persian wars at the very earliest to the RTW vanilla end date.

I only really would say that major mod teams like EB or RTR, say, donate some of their 'best' stuff, not much, but say 5-10 units. Then, individual skinners could contribute maybe, and also add a couple of popular maps to it.

I understand that some stuff may not go together, and the solution to this would be to select work that does. Looking at the atists gallery on TWcenter, it seems clear that with the contribution of only a few people there you can have a great finalised result

Also, if this did occur, it would hopefully be a 'community's' mod- one for all to help if they wish, and hopefully one free from any sort of rivalries/hording away work, as i would hope a community mod like this would simply allow anybody who has done anything worthwile in the community to add it...

I think it would be a geat idea to amalgamate some of the best unit mods within the appropriate date range, but, what I'd really like to see is a consensus about file changes that can be done to improve AI behaviour (from the point of view of players that want a greater challenge), many mods say that they have improved diplomacy or battle behaviour etc., it would be really useful if the basic principles behind this were explained so we could get get an optimised starting point for mods.

The EB script has got to be implemented as well, it just makes the game far more interesting. There is also the Client Kingdom mod which I think is interesting, but has to be done after all the rest of the modifications are added, otherwise some wrong units might pop up in wrong places.

Yeah, that is a good idea. Also, it could have various new facions as batches maybe, by keeping all factions and still having factions like baktria

Really, the only problem I have about this compilation mod, if i ever was to start it, would be all the copyright issues...

In an ideal world, i would be able to use everything as this mod would be intended not as a 'mod' as such, but really it all depends if people are willing in letting me use their stuff.:book:
